Picked This Up Off 'The Chatter Box'

Very funny tape - seems the LAPD detained two LASD deputies for over half an hour while they tried to determine if they were REAL DEPUTIES (even though they were in uniform AND their Sargent arrived to vouch for them).

Here's the tape the LASD made to 'assist' the LAPD in how to identify LASD deputies who may be riding in an unmarked cars.....

Here's the original thread in the Chatter Box - check it out, there's more background info on this story

How to identify a Uniformed Los Angeles Sheriffs Officer

Makes you wonder......

I enjoyed seeing that video again. I worked for LASD and the deputies who were involved came to our station to show the video. What wasn't said and I think you might like to know (I mentioned it in the thread on the chatterbox) is the deputies honestly believed they would be killed.

With that mindset, they planned to roll over, draw their weapons at the same time and try to shoot the LAPD. Before they had to do that, the LAPD Sgt. showed up. It could have been a very bad situation.

But the video was hilarious and LAPD was embarrassed like hell since copies were distributed to all of the right places in their dept.

We had a problem like this in NYC. While I was with the NYPD Harbor Unit, we were stopped while on routine patrol (on a clearly marked 25 foot parker boat, lettered NYPD Police, and the launch #) by the Coast Guard (couple years ago). One boat starting following us, then a second, and finally a helo. They stopped us, and asked us who we were. I looked at the side of the boat and gave the coastie the dumbest look I can muster. They asked again, and then proceeded to ask what boat number we were (which is also reflective blue stenciling on the pilothouse of the boat). Again a dumb look. The coasties detained us, waiting for confirmation on who we were. Now, I would understand an unmarked boat/car, no uniforms on (plain clothes), etc. But we were in uniform, on a marked police boat.
You just cant make this stuff up.
I wont go into some of the other incidents with the coasties and nypd, but needless to say the stupidity did not end, and one of the coasties wound up with a broke jaw.

bigmike, a bit off topic, but along the lines of your post:

IIRC, in the 80s, some of the deputies who worked TST (the prisoner buses) had a little "war" going on with the CHP Officers who worked the area near Wayside Honor Rancho Jail (now Pitchess Custody facility). It is located just beyond Magic Mountain.

I don't know how it started, but they were forever stopping each other and screwing with each other. The ol' straw that broke the camel's back so to speak, was when a CHP officer stopped one of the buses full of inmates that had just left the facility.

The bus driver thought that one of the taillights may have burned out and the officer was stopping him to advise him of that. Nope. He was going to give him a ticket for going to fast (something like 31 in a 30). Well, the bookman (passenger deputy in the bus) said not going to happen and hooked him up for interfering with an officer in the performance of his duties (148pc). The inmates cheered and thought it a great show. They transported him with the inmates to the court in L.A.

Well, this is when the SHTF. The judge, the same one who had been handling all of the tickets they had been giving each other, blew his stack and had the Capt.s of both units contacted and the war was over.

Really stupid stuff.
