Officer, what would you like me to do?

One of the questions I have asked and received multiple opinions on is what do do if you are carrying and pulled over.

Some officers have told me that they don't and will see it when they run your license. Others have told me that they would like me to give them my CCW permit and tell them that I am carrying immediately.

The people I have asked are just a few of the many.

What does a mass populace of LEO's think?

Officer: Good evening, sir. License and insurance, please.

Driver: Yes, sir. Before I reach for anyting I want you to know I have a valid concealed carry permit. There is a weapon in the vehicle. It is a ___________ and it is located __________. It is loaded. What would you like me to do?

If you are going to disclose this information, I like this approach. It is short, simple, and direct. In GA, the citizen is not legally bound to disclose that he is carrying, but a heads up is appreciated.

I couldn't have said it better. That is exactly right and in proper sequence.

Depending on state you don't have to say anything to them. I let them know anyway just so they know what is going on.

Knowledge is power and information is a powerful tool. The more information the officer has about the situation the smoother it usually goes.

I pull my gun out, point it at them, and say "hey, I have one of these".

I've only had an officer try to have me remove my weapon once all the other times they were like "OK that's fine give me your LIc and Reg."

The one time the officer tried to disarm me he had my mom who was riding in the passanger seat remove the weapon from the holster I carried. My mom couldn't figure out how to work the CQC lock on the blackhawk holster. After a few mins of trying to tell her how it worked the officer just said "don't worry about it I could have shot you walked back to my car and radioed for help by the time you got it out of there." We both laughed he gave me a verbal warning and sent me on my way.

Being up front with the LEO about the gun wheter required or not will very often get you a pass on the violation as you have shown respect to which they sometimes respond by a little bit of extra consideration for you.

Worst case scenario;

I inform the officer that I am legally carrying when I present my license and registration. I've done nothing wrong and have not made any strange motions. Weapon is legally concealed on my person or contained legally in a bag, console or glove box.

What is the worst thing the officer could possibly do? Does an officer have any legal capacity to take it away? Arrest me? Fine me?

What I am asking is, if I am perfectly legal in all respects, what COULD a police officer do?
