Do You Think It Would Happen Like This Here?

Endless 'hostage negations', endless PC intervention by "administrative personnel', lots of red tape and fruitless effort - or you could handle it like this:

Cop shoots robber in the face, defusing this possible hostage situation quickly :: Vidmax.com

Looked like a good shoot to me.

I'm oddly comfortable with this outcome. I should be outraged, but I'm not. Hmm... does this mean I should start trusting LEO's on the scene instead of second-guessing everything they do?

Well you know how we do it in America these days. We talk. And talk. And talk. And talk, and then BOOM!

Hostage ends up in critical condition.

I "should" be outraged because the LEOs on the scene were evil abusive thugs and didn't try to talk to the robber, discuss his awful childhood and inner feelings and try to sympathize with him. I'm sure if they would have just been more understanding they could have resolved the situation without having to resort to violence.....

OK, there's some sarcasm there. But that's exactly the kind of mindset that would get an American LEO in hot water if he were to defuse a hostage situation by blindsiding a felon with a headshot - a perfectly acceptable and rational solution in my opinion. He would spend the following year being deposed by lawyers and defending against lawsuits from the thug's family. In a sane world, they'd give him a few days off, slap him on the back and say "good job" and move on, knowing that the ambush-style headshot was the best solution to the situation - or more importantly, the best solution as determined by the officers on the scene, not by lawyers a month after the incident. I hope that is what would happen in the US, but I'm not optimistic.

Oh, there's a hammer and sickle in my avatar because I'm a former Russian-language student and a Red Army history buff. Yeah, it looks like I'm some kind of commie or Democrat but I assure you that's not the case...

Okay, as long as you're not a Democrat.
