My first time being pulled over for speeding, awkward situation
So I'm driving home from a friend's house on the highway at 2 am when I see flashing lights behind me. 80 in a 65. I knew he pulled me over for speeding and started thinking about what I would say. He comes up the passenger window and the first thing he asks is how I'm doing and where I'm heading. Second thing he asks is if I have any weapons in the car. I tell him I have a ccw and a pistol in my glove box. He doesn't say anything, but reaches in through my window, opens the glove box, and takes the pistol. I assume he set it on my roof. He asks for my driver's license and takes it and the pistol back to his car. I get the gun back with the slide locked back, magazine separated, and out of the holster. It resulted in just a warning. I'm a little appalled by his actions, and it was fairly obvious he had at least a few years experience under his belt. Is this normal or expected in any kind of way?

The way he grabbed my gun without saying anything at all. Cant be normal. It's obvious he didn't feel threatened or anything. If I even tried to reach for it from the passenger seat he'd have time to draw his gun, disassemble and clean it and put it back together before I even opened the glove box.

Did he take all the ammo out of the mag for you too?
What state do you live in? I personally would never have reached for it unless I obtained permission from you first. Depending on the situation I probably would have pulled the gun out of the vehicle, by permission, until the stop was over. I also would not have pulled the mag, locked the slide back, etc. If you wanted to, you could play the "Unreasonable Search and Seizure" card. Unless going 15 mph over the limit is a crime in your state, he technically conducted an unreasonable search upon your property.

I live in AZ, and I was hardly in a bad area of town. I drive a corolla, so other than being black it doesn't stick out at all. And I was as polite as possible with him as always. So it's all a little bit odd. It makes me wonder what would have happened if I had one concealed on me. Had the 1911 that day so it goes in the glove box while driving. And it's 20+ over to count as criminal speeding here.

15 mph over is a crime in Michigan? Dang, I've let people go on warnings that were going that fast.

I don't think it was appropriate for him to reach in your car and open the glove box without your permission...

I dont know about Arizona but in Iowa you would have been in Violation of the law. If the pistol isnt in a holster and on your person here it is supposed to be cased and unloaded. If it had been on your hip he probably would just have told you to keep your hands on the steering wheel and to not make any sudden movements.
