large city or CBPO (michigan)

I have recieved a conditional offer from cbpo for Michigan and am just beginning their process, but at the same time have just completed the last step before a conditional offer from a large city in Ohio. I am torn between the two, I like my job now so would not mind waiting to start the academy, since I am just starting cbpo's process. I like the idea of being Federal, but do not like the idea of stamping passports for years, also the news as of late has not been good. I know there would be alot of oppurtunities with both departments and they pay is relatively close. I would appreciate all thoughts and opinions. (if my grammer and spelling are bad I'm sorry I'm half way through a 16 hr shift).

Matt

There's no way you got a conditional offer for BP for Michigan, all new hires start on the southern border. Perhaps you meant for a Customs and Border Protection officer position (the guys at the port of entries that screen incoming passengers and cargo.) The good news is that just recently the CBPO's got approved for Federal Law Enforcement retirement.

Not sure if you've checked it out yet, but visit:

for a forum all about CBPO's and the hiring process. There's a lot of CBPO's on the forum that will help you with any questions you've got. If you're willing to relocate though, consider applying for the Border Patrol...it's much more of a law enforcement position that what the Customs guys do at the Ports.

Don't get me wrong, they've got a tough job, and I would never want to deal with all those passengers all day long, but I got to arrest a group of 38 the other night, fun like that you can't buy, you have to get PAID for it...

Dont go for the CBPO you will spend the rest of your life in a little booth sucking fumes. If I were join the BP and were a nice green uniform and have some outdoor fun.
