Rookie complaint

Been with my S.O. for 2 years and a couple days. Been with the uniform patrol division since october. First court hearing I actually have to go to is tomorrow at 0900. I am used to waking up at 1230 for work and staying up till 0400. Tomorrow I have to get up at 0730 (its 3 am right now), and I agreed prior to finding out I was need at court to come into work early at 1200. I am screwed tomorrow. its gonna be a LONG day. Just thought i would bitch. Lets hear about your bad days.

So far my worst day was in the academy.

One of the recruits in our class got in trouble because she forgot her belt, so we got a 1,500 word handwritten memo to write due the next day. Later that day in PT some ass wore purple boxers underneath his PT uniform instead of the unofficially-mandated standard-color briefs, and an instructor saw it. He gave us another 1,500 word memo due the next day. So that was 3,000 words handwritten due the next morning before roll call.

Words under 4 letters didn't count, and we had to number each word. No white-out, or crossing out words.

I didn't sleep that night, and the next day's PT kicked my ass.

Since graduating I've had several 16-hour days voluntarily for OT. There was one day during my FTO phase I went from the afternoon shift to the midnight shift on the same day, and it sucked. Some days I've been in court from 0900 until 1500 and then worked the rest of my normal shift until 2200.

None of them were as bad as that day in the academy. LOL

Yesterday wasnt terrible because my Chief has issues with overtime but I worked 10 P to 6 a back in at 8 am for court didnt clock out to go home till 6 pm was supposed to be back in at 10 pm but they called in another officer to work for me.

This is pretty regular for me so I am used to it. I am a SOLO night officer for the city on Wed nights. We have law day on Wednesdays. So If I have to go to court I usually end up staying up till around 2pm before getting home and to sleep then back in 10 PM.

I actually bested my worse day with one recently. up ar 1200, at work by 1400. I had a late meth arrest/investigation that had me leaving at 4am, home by 0430, asleep by 0515. Up at 0650, at court by 0900. left court and went to work around 1330 until 2300.

A few weeks ago I had just finished a 12-hour training day; I walked in, sat down and took off my boots. The phone rang for an EOD callout. I walked back out the door and worked another 18 hours.

Ain't no use in complaining; no one would listen anyway.

Two years on and this is your first court date? Either you don't make a lot of arrests, write a lot of tickets, or are just one lucky S.O.B.. I had court before I made it off FTO. Now I go at least twice a month. Only lost one case though.

Consider yourself lucky.

combination of luck and circumatance. I manage to stay out of court a lot actually. I right good reports and my arrestees plea out guilty. Not bad for a rook! Plus i did just a little over a year as a "jail deputy": little cause to go to court there.

When the Northridge earthquake occurred, I was on the response team. We were one of the furthest stations from the loc., so we flew in on a Chinook helicopter each day for a week. The rest of the dept. was on a 12 and 12,but by time we got there, did the shift and returned, it was 18hrs. each day.

It actually was not that bad as we were fed by the govt. (filet mignon and the works). Plus, the chopper ride was a lot of fun and I got a lot of pics of the damaged fwys and other areas as they left the ramp down a bit. All of that and the huge amount of overtime, kept us all happy.

May 1999. We were supposed to do our night ride for motor school. A tornando rolls through South Wichita taking out several trailer parks and several neighborhoods. We spent that night going through the debris looking for survivors (only 1 fatality) and then back to class at 8 am for 8 hours on a motor. It was pretty ominus walking through those trailer parks that had been wiped out and listening to all the severed gas lines hissing.
