One of the reasons so many l.e. agencies go with Glocks is that Glocks don't require the services of a gunsmith. They're so simple to work on that just about any l.e.o. can be a "Certified Glock Armorer" after taking a one-day course.

Yea I saw that their course was short.

I'm wonder how long agencies clean their guns though. Granted it shouldnt be too often since they probably dont get shot often but I know at my local PD the officers dont clean the guns themselves. My friend said he gives his gun to the "armorer" at the PD. I figure if the dept has alot of firearms then they might need someone dedicated to their armory.

Gee, I don't know how accurate that statement coming from a LEO is - every one of the guys I've known (and still know and shoot with) would never trust their duty weapon to someone else to clean. I've always cleaned after every range/practice session and, if I can't get one in for about a month or so (the weather doesn't always cooperate around here!), I break it down and clean it before I go on duty.

You might want to show your buddy how to clean his duty weapon - it could be a matter of life or death for him.....

Well this is something hes been doing for years so I dont know. I think the detective said he "maintains" all of the guns in the dept.

I work with a few who would not care who cleans their gun. The only time they do clean is because they have to because the instructor makes them.

NASA guards in Houston farmed out their gun repairs to a local shop but that was when they used revolvers. I don't know what they do now.

Yea I dont doubt it. I'm not looking to make this a full-time gig. The more I think about it the more I'm doing it so I can learn how to do stuff myself. I'm also going to get certified as a NRA Firearms instructor.
