Need Advice On Duty Boots..

So I start the academy Jan 14th and need to get some duty boots before I go. I am thinking I should just get some good boots that I can wear when I return from the academy and am on duty so I'm planning on spending $100-$150 for them. Is that a realistic amount? Also, I'm going to be working in Southern Utah where in the summer it gets to the 90's but we do have a long winter from the end of October until about March and will be dealing with snow and rain so I was thinking maybe a waterproof boot? I've had a heck of a time looking online at boots and can't decide so I thought I'd get the opinions of some other LEO's out there.

Please let me know your thoughts on brands and models so I can get some ordered. I'd like to get them ordered ASAP so I can make sure they fit and have enough time to exchange if need be.

Thanks guys!!!

Hey Taz Congrats on the selection. I have listen to others and ordered boots off the Internet and was just never very happy with them. I would say see if you can find a place local and go try them on. Will the academy want you to have high polished or just back?

theres my buddy okla - they didnt say about the polished or just black. i think just a black that I could polish (if thats possible) would work. Unfortunately there is NO WHERE that I can look at and try on duty boots unless I drive up to salt lake which is a 4 hour drive (no thanks).

I can't give you suggestions on individual boots, but I can give you a suggestion on where to go.

If you make your way to Las Vegas, or call (they'll do mail order sales as well) to Hahn's Military Surplus (my uncle and aunt own and run the store), one thing they know spectacularly well is boots. I'm sure they'd steer you in the right direction.

It's a good idea to try them on before you order on the net.

For instance: I wear a size 9 shoe, but the Bates Ultralites that fit my foot are sized 8. Dunno why, but they are.

I like the Danners, and Rockey. Magnums are ok but I have had problems with Bates (soles coming off). Those all should shine up well. I would get one with a safety toe and a reinforced shank. I would still try to find so way to try them on.

Yeah, had a buddy reccomend the Danners - he said he's had Bates for about 3.5 years and they are just starting to wear out, but said that the Danners are awesome. He also told me that Sportsmans Warehouse has both Danners and Bates and we have one of those about 45 miles away so I think I'll go there and try them on and see what I like. Thanks Okla!
