LEO Application Question(Indiana)

I graduated form college about 6 mon. ago. Presently, I am working at a warehouse trying to save money and watching the job sites and classifieds for LEO postions open in my area. Well, my question deals with the Minimum Qualifications. Theposition in question is at my former college's University Police Dept. About a year and a half ago there was a shooting involving a LEO and a Student with a .34 BAL. the student was shot and killed after making threatening gestures and movements. NOW, on the Min. Quals. it says that applicants must have completed the Indiana Law Enforcement Pre-Basic Training. Now, How am I supposed to have completed this training if I am not already a cop. Sounds to me, that is the only way to do that training. How can this job be equal opportunity if they will only consider applicants that are already cops. It sonds to me that the University is trying to cover their behinds since the LEO in the shooting mentioned above was a rookie who had not attended the Academy yet and was not required to ride with a partner. I hope some of you can shed some light on this situation. thanks and be safe.

The 40 hour prebasic is a requirement to go on the streets. This is a state min. for a leo in indiana. I doubt they mean that you have to have this before you are hired, usually this is dont right as you start. If it is a requirement then go out and become a reserve officer... I have a feeling this is a miscommunication.

I think that this IS a requirement. I was not allowed an application unless I had completed the PreBasic Course. Doesn't sound very equal opportunity to me. But yeah, reserve officer is on part of my plan. Thanks for the info.

equal opportunity only means equal in regards to race, religion, sex. EOE does not mean you can get the job w/o meeting the qualifications. IOW, being a fat white male will not prevent me from being a country music star, however not knowing how to play an instrument and having a singing voice, likened at times to a cat gagging on a canary, will.

Yeah, i kinda see your point. However, IMHO, by this particular dept not allowing any person to fill out an application without having already gone thru a pre basic course at another dept. I guess this basically means that they will not take rookies. I guess it is their perogative, but it still feels wrong. Guess i wont be woking there anytime soon.
