Tactics for Criminal Patrol

I was reading an older thread where MikeTRT asked how many people had read "On Killing" and I was wondering about another couple of books that are must-reads.

The book are "Tactics for Criminal Patrol" and "The Gift of Fear".

"Tactics..." is one of three books by the same author that are kind of along the same lines, but by far is the best of the series.

My personal favorite is "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin DeBecker. It draws upon human instinct and gut feelings and gives us real reasons to trust them. I hope you've all been told that you should always trust your instincts, and that they will get more accurate the longer you work, but this book has stopped me from saying... "That's dumb, I have no reason to feel this way..." and has taught me to just react and think about it later. Also, it's saved my bacon a couple of times, and has kept me from killing someone unneccessarily, as well. Any thoughts on these?

By the way, Mike, I'll hunt for "On Killing" so I can read it asap.

I also recommend the sequel to "On Killing", "On Combat". Both are brilliant books that you'll be glad to have read. Great to have in a collection!

Shane, absolutely read on killing and on combat, outstanding look into the minds of those that kill or may need to......

as far as the book your speaking of, Tactics for criminal patrol is also great reading for LEO's, and its the third in the series by I think, Remsberg, if I remember right, the first two are Street Survival and the Tactical Edge.....all three are great, they're getting a bit old now (I know because Ive had all three since I got on the job) I think they're still sold by Caliber Press......

stay safe

Remsburg is correct, as was the names of the other two books. They still teach the "Tactical Edge" book at the Kentucky Police Academy. I know dude, from experience, if you know what I mean....

I still recommend "The Gift of Fear" over all other books I've read, and I've read hundreds. It was given to me by a former co-worker from the S.O., who's now gone on to be a Federal NCIS agent and is on the 9-11 task force. Please, go get it asap. It will save your life if you are in law enforcement.

I'd recommend reading them in the order they were published, "On Killing" first, then "On Combat", but it really doesn't matter that much...enjoy!
