Department Rules

I have noticed most LEO's around here have shaved heads or very short haircuts, is this a rule or is it by choice? I know why they don't have long hair I was just wondering if there is some length rule or what. I know this question has no bearing on anything I was just wondering

I keep my hair cut short because it looks good and clean. The way I keep myself looking is a reflection of my department and my job as a peace officer. If I look trashy it shows the public that I don't care about my job.

On the practical side, if you have short hair or no hair at all it makes it harder for someone to grab it in a fight.

Yeah I know the reason why but I was wondering if it was a RULE. I keep my hair short simply because it looks more appealing, but i understand why leo's keep it short I was just wondering if there was an appearance rule or something.

We have "grooming standards" at my dept. No full beards (goatees are OK) mustaches trimmed to the corners of the mouth, fresh shave every day, etc. Hair must be neat and off the collar. Most of us wear some version of military haircut; either high and tight or regulation.

That's what I was looking for. I assumed there was some sort of standard to grooming. No piercing, long hair, dirt facial hair, etc.

Our dept has rules (nyc). We are allowed goatees if they are clean. Other than that, no beards, no long hair/pony tails. Tats are visible thats ok. No earings and chains (necklaces) allowed. Even bracelets and rings are minimum.
Thats for patrol, detectives pretty much according to thier assignments. Personally I keep my hair short or I shave my head. Like it alot better than having a full head of hair.

My agency has regulations as well. Hair has to stay off the collar, no beards or goatees, mustaches can't extend beyond the corner of the lip, blah blah blah.
