Duty Gun Question
Do LEO's have to carry strictly the gun that is issued to them by the dept. or can they carry any gun of their choice. The reason I ask is because my local city police carries Sig's but the Sheriffs carry XD's? Never seen them carry anything other than exactly that.

different departments have different policies......some issue weapons, some do not.

Mike TRT, +1 on that... it is different for every department. In mine, we have to carry the Glock 22 or 23... BUT we are aloud to carry our own 22 or 23 if it is inspected by our armorer first, that is what I do, I have my own 22.

depends on the department
Ours issues us a Glock 22. But we can carry an bunch of dao guns as long as its factory and they inspect them. Para LDA is popular as is the XD. I just got permsion to get an XD tactical and I am getting some stuff added at the custom shop before it ships. As long as the trigger pull is the same and its a stock gun from SA its good to go.

We are only allowed to carry the SIG P229R or S&W 4043 on patrol.
