Memorial Day

I was just thinking about Memorial Day. Here we are in the midst of a war unlike any other in history. The enemy doesn’t wear a uniform but our soldiers have to. The world expects us to abide by the Geneva Convention and play by the rules but they can kidnap and murder all they want. I ask myself if it’s worth it. I will tell you that the young people who fight the battles don’t ask. They just go and do what they have to do and leave the debate to those of us at home . Every time I see a flag-draped coffin a part of me says, “What a waste.” Another part of me is very proud to be from a place where people care enough for each other to risk it all. www.militarycity.com has a tribute site for our military who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan . Go there this weekend and look at the faces of these fallen heroes and remember that they have families who will never see those faces again, never. Children will have to do without hugs from those arms. Husbands and wives will have to go it alone because we were so loved. Jesus said, “No greater love hath any man than he lay down his life for a friend.” This Memorial Day weekend, take a moment to think about a love so great that they laid down their life for total strangers…like me.

The way you wrote it, it's actually an insult. "Not never" is a double-negative

But yeah I know what you meant to say...

Actually, in colloquial usage a double negative construction is intended and understood to be emphatic.

"You ain't not never gonna do that." -- Triple emphatic.

It's language, not a math equation.

It's language. You ain't gonna not never be no sortin' it out by countin'.

And thanks for the good words. I ain't no Marine, but I find "Semper Fi" says it all.

When Dish Network answers the phone (robot) it says, "I see you're one of our highly valued customers."

-- Makes me wonder about their non-valued customers.
