Sig 226 for Duty

I am hopefully going to start with my local PD. I was going to carry my XD40. My PD is changing the firearms policy, so here I am. How good of a Duty pistol is the Sig 226 in 9mm? ( I will be trading it in after probation for a 40, another new gun rule, only 9mm till off probation) Should I go with the regular 226 or with the 226 SCT? How long did it take until you were used to the DA/SA? I would use a 239 as back up, to keep trigger groups the same. What do you officers think?
thanks

My friend's dad is a sherriff in IN, he loves his .45 SIG and that's why my buddy bought his first change he could. 9mm i'm not sure about, but i've heard they are one of the best out-of-box pistols next to the USP.

i personally like the XD more, but i would buy a 9mm SIG in a heartbeat if it was available to me!

I have carried both, and I'll take a 22X Series Sig every time. The DA trigger is not hard to master for the first shot, and you get a nice SA trigger without having to carry a 'modded' duty gun.

Master your carry gun and resist the urge to change unless it's department issue, or there are clear gains from doing so. Running your duty gun needs to become second nature to you, so when the crap hits the fan you can use your conscious thought proceses for getting out alive.

I'm not a law dog, but every Sig I have ever handled has been squared away from the git-go. I am a little curious as to how the DAK triggers feel. Anyone tried one? By the way, congrats and be safe.

The DAK trigger is excellent. Great 6.5# pull, very consistent. As for the 9mm Sig 226, thats what I carry every day, and you'll never get my hands off of it. I like the XD, I like Glocks, I don't mind a good Beretta M92FS...but while all of those may come and go out of my collection, I will ALWAYS own a Sig. Always. IMO, they are some of the best guns out there.

The 226 is top notch. I cannot imagine you being armed with anything better! Lots of others are just as good but you will have a hard time convincing me they are better. The one beef I had with mine is I had to nearly knock my sights off the gun to shoot POA/POI.

I made some of my best shots with a Sig 226 on wild game. I took a coyote on the run from 40 yards and numerous grouse and other critters.

I really like the 226. I especially like the older guns without the rail. I just like the lighter weight. I am still bemoaning the loss of my Sig 220, hard chrome with true dots. It was my guide gun for 8 years and it still looked great when I sold it to a pal who was going to Kamchatka. He died a couple years ago in a plane crash. I tried to track it down but it's gone.

The older guns in 226 and 220 are definitely nicer than the new stuff and they can be had for less $$$... if you are not into the rail.

Mine is one of the West German models, built in 1992. Estimated 15K rounds through it, and it shoots better than most of my new guns.

We're issued the P229R in double-action-only with a 9-pound trigger pull.

I'd prefer DA/SA, but it's still a great gun.
