Handgun selection is the least important factor when considering a new job. Its foolish to say I would not take a job with such and such because they carry X or Y pistol. So long as the pistol is reliable, accurate and in 9mm or larger it should be the least of your concerns. Pay, benefits, location and other factors mean a lot more. You can always work from inside the department late on to get them to change their side arm choice once you get some seniority. Pat |

If I were to go to work for a department that carried 9's, I'd be okay with that. But to go to work for a department that tells me that while I'm a newby I can only carry a 9mm, but when I grow up I can carry a .45, well, another story. Last edited by any4xx; 09-18-2007 at 08:32 AM. |

You're probably right. I've been retired for just over 5 years. I'm glad I'm out. I don't think I have the patience for the political stupidity any longer.

I actually like the pull on the SIG's. I don't grip them the same way as I do Glocks, Beretta's, XD and 1911's, though. I keep my right thumb down and left thumb over it and pointed at the target. The pointy tang and the slide release don't make a higher grip natural for me as I have very large hands. Still, I shoot the SIG 220 with true dot night sights as well as anything... it just doesn't handle as fast. Carries nice, though.

The reason ( I believe ) for only 9mm is that alot of people dont pass the academy and so they are thowing alot of ammo out for nothing. Might as well shoot somthing cheaper, and on range days, only one type of ammo to show up with.

The 9mm requirment might also have to do with recoil control. Maybe they fthink a new officer will have less trigger time than a veteran will. Expierance might equal recoil control in that agency due to training received through the probation period. The 226 in 9mm Luger is a great choise for a rookie or a veteran
