But second; what kind of a moron made the stupid rule that you can only carry a 9mm while on probation? That makes NO sense on ANY level. I'd seriously reconsider working for a department that had administrators unable to think.
Nothing wrong with the 9mm. While I don't like arbitrary rules its not that big of a deal. If I had to carry a Sig again it would be the 226 in 9mm over the 220.

Handgun selection is the least important factor when considering a new job. Its foolish to say I would not take a job with such and such because they carry X or Y pistol. So long as the pistol is reliable, accurate and in 9mm or larger it should be the least of your concerns. Pay, benefits, location and other factors mean a lot more. You can always work from inside the department late on to get them to change their side arm choice once you get some seniority.

I have no problem with the 9mm either. And I don't see this as a "Handgun selection" issue. I see it as an issue that shows an administration that has made a rule that makes absolutely no sense. I was in the game long enough to see my share of block-headed administrators. My fear with THIS department is if this rule is any indication on how the administration thinks and acts, I'd sure want to see the whole procedures manual before I committed to working for them. I guess my concern is what POSSIBLE reason could there be for this rule to exist? And what other silly rules will I grow to hate while working there?

If I were to go to work for a department that carried 9's, I'd be okay with that. But to go to work for a department that tells me that while I'm a newby I can only carry a 9mm, but when I grow up I can carry a .45, well, another story.

You're probably right. I've been retired for just over 5 years. I'm glad I'm out. I don't think I have the patience for the political stupidity any longer.

I agree my P220 is an amazing pistol I could shoot it stock and get some good groups but I wanted to change the sights to adjustable so I could group better out at longer distances(involved in some competitions where the 230gr was dropping too much too fast). I have had no problem with the long double action pull except when doing a long, slow and gradual pull on the trigger for the first shot(every once in a while on the range-watch those sight jiggle). Out of the holster and onto the target I have had no problem with the first shot. I am not a law enforcement officer but I have had experience with firing several different pistols and shoulder fired arms under varying conditions. Love my Sig and couldn't be happier with having it be my first firearm purchased.

I actually like the pull on the SIG's. I don't grip them the same way as I do Glocks, Beretta's, XD and 1911's, though. I keep my right thumb down and left thumb over it and pointed at the target. The pointy tang and the slide release don't make a higher grip natural for me as I have very large hands. Still, I shoot the SIG 220 with true dot night sights as well as anything... it just doesn't handle as fast. Carries nice, though.

The reason ( I believe ) for only 9mm is that alot of people dont pass the academy and so they are thowing alot of ammo out for nothing. Might as well shoot somthing cheaper, and on range days, only one type of ammo to show up with.

The 9mm requirment might also have to do with recoil control. Maybe they fthink a new officer will have less trigger time than a veteran will. Expierance might equal recoil control in that agency due to training received through the probation period. The 226 in 9mm Luger is a great choise for a rookie or a veteran
