They're getting a GREAT pistol for duty carry! Have it and it's been pure pleasure for the past 3 years!

That's great news! So, that means that there are now five more XDs in service worldwide!

Chicago Police Department recently allowed Officers to carry XD's, S&W M&P's, and Glocks. They've been horribly restricted until this point.

New Weapons Order Approved

CC has just received the much-awaited information regarding the new approved weapons order.
After consultation with the Mayor, the Superintendent has approved an updated Weapons and Ammunition General Order. The specific order number has not been assigned and the effective date of the order has not been decided. However, some of the key points of the order are as follows:
  1. Striker-fired pistols manufactured by Smith and Wesson, Springfield Armory, and Glock have been approved
  2. The calibers of 9mm Luger (Parabellum), .40 S&W, and .45 ACP have been approved
  3. Department members will be allowed to transition to striker-fired pistols as their primary weapon after they have completed a voluntary transition course during off-duty hours
  4. Transition courses will consist of either 24 hours of instruction for revolver officers or 16 hours of instruction for semi-automatic officers
  5. Transition Courses are being planned for the last three months of 2007; a schedule of courses has not yet been posted
  6. Department members will not be allowed to carry a striker-fired pistol until they have either completed their basic recruit training with a striker-fired pistol or completed the required transition course
  7. Department members will not be required to transition to a new firing system
  8. Department members will be allowed to transition to a semi-automatic pistol as their primary weapon in lieu of their prescribed revolver
  9. Roll Call weapons inspection will be required every Wednesday
  10. Uniformed sworn members assigned to field duties who carry a semi-automatic pistol will carry an approved firearm with a minimum barrel length of 3.5 inches
  11. Citizens dress sworn members assigned to field duties who carry a semi-automatic pistol will carry an approved firearm with a minimum barrel length of 3.0 inches

I saw a Harris County Sheriff Deputy on motorcycle duty, carrying an XD yesterday. This is the first time I have ever seen a LEO in our area carrying an XD.

Most agencies around here carry Glocks or Sigs. My friend in HPD's Auto Theft Div. carries his own SIG P220. He says that after so many years, you can carry your own gun,if it is on the approved list.

Since I live close to Region 2 HQ for the Texas Rangers, I see almost every Ranger carrying some form of 1911. Strange, because a tv ad on Outdoor Channel for SIG says Texas Rangers carry the P226. I have seen our Hwy Patrol guys carrying p226s (in 357) but every Ranger I have ever seen carries a 1911. Most are highly customized Colts but I have seen one or two Kimbers.
