Off duty cop killed by illegal alien in a hit and (attempted) run

Some friends of mine witnessed this accident, and were involved in the detaining of the driver who tried to flee the scene (cause he was an illegal alien, and was drunk) And they helped 6-8 guys lift the camero off the guy, who ended up dying this morning. He turned out to be an off duty cop from flint who lives in the area.

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A driver tried to run away after his car struck and killed an off-duty Flint police officer, but bystanders tackled him, police said.Witnesses also lifted the 1992 Chevrolet Camaro off of Officer Vincent D'Anna, 26, who was driving a motorcycle when the car rear-ended him Sunday evening. It happened near the DTE Energy Music Theater near Clarkston where OzzFest, an all day music festival was taking place.

D'Anna, of Goodrich, died Monday at Genesys Regional Medical Center.According to police, D'Anna was going south on Sashabaw Road and was just south of Clarkston Road in Independence Township when he was struck from behind by a 28-year-old Pontiac man driving a 1992 Camaro.Deputies said that the Camaro went over D'Anna, dragging him several feet. The driver attempted to run, but witnesses tackled and held him until police arrived.Several witnesses lifted the car off of D'Anna after he was trapped underneath.D'anna had been a Flint police officer for a little more than a year.Deputies said that they believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

It gets worse. Found this post by someone who is reportedly a fellow officer.

After 11 years of being at my department, I still haven't gotten use it, but a friend of mine who's a rookie officer under my command was killed last night. I can't give many details for obvious reasons, but it looks like he was involved in an accident, and when he was standing off the road to call 911, the other guy ran him over in his car, dragging him under his vehicle for several feet, killing him. However, it appears to be an attempt to stop the 911 call which went dead as he was talking to dispatch. And of course I would have "just" talked to him the day before. But anyway, say a prayer. I'll post more once its made public. He was in his early 20's and honest to God, one of the nicest guys you'd meet; very professional and a quit type of guy. Amazing.

There's actually more to this story, which should come out today or tomorrow. But he wasn't killed as a result of the initial accident. After being hit, he was thrown off his bike, and got up just fine. When he went to the shoulder to either call 911 or a friend (is what I was told), the guy drove up on the shoulder and ran him over, dragging him about 75 feet in the road. There's conflicting stories as well after this point; one person said he backed back up over him after initially running him over. The guy is apparently an illegal alien, and the theory is that he thought he was calling the police, and paniked (but that's pure speculation). He was suspended, and its unclear if he was drunk. A different department is doing the investigation, but it was a horrible deal. Witnesses picked the car up off of the officer, but you can just imagine the scene. I'm anticipating murder charges coming out of it, not an accident like the news is saying. We'll see I guess. But thanks again everyone.
It appears the driver may have run him over to stop him from calling 911. None of this is verified, but more will probably come out after the arraignment today. The bystanders who helped out were called in for depositions and to verify there statements from the scene. The charges will be telling, plus his name will be released and whether he really is illegal. I will say that the guys who I know who were there didn't see him running the guy over, they did however hear the engine revving, etc and by the time the got over there the officer was under the rear part of the car, so their story jives with this.

I can't tell you how pi**ed off this makes me.

I hope that that is only speculation...If that is true that the driver went up on the sidewalk to run over this guy to keep him from making that call....

I dont really even know what to say. Times like this I think back to the old eye for an eye punishment. There is a special place in hell for guys like this.

Again...RIP Brother and prayers to his family and loved ones.

They charged him with Murder 2, not sure if that is a result of the drunk driving, or some measure of intent. He was arraigned for Murder 2, DWI, driving while suspended (his third offense), and fleeing the scene (felony)
