Thanks for the replies once again guys/girls.

Would this be a nice part time job? What kind of money would I be looking at if I was to be offered a full time position?

I live in Missouri for pay reference.

Thanks again!!

Pay generally varies from state to state, city to city...I'm not sure what you'd be looking at. I can tell you that working in the Toledo, OH area I was only making $8.16 per hour working LP. Even as a supervisor at my old security company, I only made $9.50 per hour. Thats Toledo though...any kind of decent security job was hard to find, and NOTHING paid very much - it's just a bad area. I've heard that JC Penny's LP made more like $12 per hour though, which I why I suggested them.

Start throwing some apps at the local loss prevention companies and see what they say.

Security does not pay well.

I make decent money in security, but I'm a super. Considering cost of living here.... I do pretty well.

It can, you just need to find the right companies to work for. Most of the mainstream security firms don't pay squat, since they are spread out so thin...it's the smaller, private entities that can afford to pay better, since they usually have better budgets.

I make nearly twice as much now as I did in Toledo...although "security" isn't exactly the correct term for what I do...our scope goes way beyond the norm for what most people think security officers do, and our department has a $2M per year budget for 13 officers and 6 vehicles. We do alright.

I worked 5 years in loss prevention before becoming a probation officer - it is good experience. But yea, I finally left because I needed more pay. Plus, I messed up 1 knee in a few fights with shoplifters.

I used to work for Foley's, which is now Macy's.

Macy's, Lowes, Wal-Mart (I would not recommend Wal-Mart if you are in a large city - it can be very dangerous. The clientele you are stopping will be rougher than in other, upscale stores), JC Penny, Home Dept, many grocery stores have loss prevention.

I've done LP since 1992 and have worked for both May Company (now Robinson's May) and Target stores. Great experience if you are going to be a cop because you really learn how to "read" people and pick up on that sixth sense about things that are wrong. My advice to you, and I can honestly tell you that I am qualified to give you this advice, is work at a high activity store and with an experienced trainer. By high activity store, I mean high crime area. You will be so bored if you don't and you will have a blast if you pick the right store. Another thing...don't get lazy and be creative. Work it for all its worth. I even wear disguises...old work shirts and dickies and work boots, scrubs, etc. Who gives a crap what you look like if you are always catching people. You will gain mad respect. Have fun. I think you said you were from Misery (Missouri)...sorry, couldn't resist....and you should be able to find an rockin store in St. Louis.
