Need help with XD Info
Well I went to the chief today and asked him about adding the XD to the on duty approved firearms list. I explained the XD and the features. He said he did not see any problem with it as long as the firearm was the way I described. He asked that I write up a memo asking for the pistols to be included then submit some information on the handguns.
The Springfield website while flashy and pretty is not printer friendly. Anyone know where I can print up the specs / features of the XD. I'm planning on ordering the service model on Monday site unseen. I saw the tactical a few weeks ago and really liked the fit and feel of it but I wasn't too crazy about the 5" barrel. It would have been nice to have the service model next to it to compare though. Unfortunately there aren't any XDs in the area to see. Any reason to go with the tactical and not the service other than personal preference? |

Find an SA Law Enforcement dealer. If you are in CA as your name suggests, try Jeff at Nice Shot in Redding. That's who sold me my first XD. He will arrange to bring out samples your chief and firearms guys can play with.

The service and Tactical use the same frame. only the slide is different. you get a longer slide and barrel with the Tactical model. whch gives you a longer sight radius. the recoil spring is a one piece in the tactical and a two piece in the service. You can get an after market guide rod for the tactical and use standard 1911 recoil springs should you desire to play with that. Naturally the Service is a little bit lighter. Otherwise it a personal preference/fit/use thing.
I think if you look around the SA web site you can download the manual. You might be able to cut and paste what you need from that. Quote:

Run a Google search on the Springfield XD. You'll find a TON of reviews from the gun mags on this line (mostly very favorable, I might add) that will give you all types of technical details and operating charestics on the pistol. From these, you can cut & paste (as others have suggested).
If all else fails, you can contact Springfield directly and explain what you're doing to their LE Sales department. These folks have a vested interest in helping you justify the pistol for your department and might offer both advise on how to get the approval and any other technical details you may be looking for. Let us know how this turns out, OK? And GOOD LUCK!

Springfield may have a media packet or LEO specific packet that they would "hopefully" be eager to send your department.
