Question about real l.e.o. talk!

I hear cops being interviewed and find that many use the word, "myself" incorrectly. What's up with that? eg., "My partner and myself caught the b.g.; that was apparent to my partner and myself."

Is it because they don't really know when to correctly use "I" and "me"?????

No idea - haven't noticed it in the pst, but will watch for it....maybe they just want to sound "official" when talking to the press or outsiders.

In defense of LEOs I don't believe the occasional misuse of English is unique to their profession. We are all guilty of it...some more than others.

You're right, but why limit it to cops?

I find that many people who get interviewed about an occurrence (videotaped or written) do this.
As a police supervisor, I can tell you that even among educated people (more than half of our Officers hired in the last 10 years have a Bachelor's Degree), the English language is a lost art.
I'm the paperwork nazi (I have coworkers on this board who might confirm this ) and I'm not even that great in English.

BTW, you should see the crap I get or see from non-cops...
makes our stuff look Pulitzer-prize/Emmy winning.

its because police reports are written at about a fourth grade level, mostly so defense attorneys can understand them

"Bad man did bad thing. I then gut-stomped bad man."

Of course, using the minimum level of force neccessary to effect (or gee, is it affect?) the arrest in accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated.

I don't know, but I bet many of them can use commas correctly.
