The Academy
What should I expect on the first day of the academy. The tulsa academy begins July 5th and I want to know what to expect and the different things I should be training for. What all should I expect when it come to PT. And does anyone know if there is a basic requiremnt to pass the CLEET training in Oklahoma? Thanks

I'm not a LEO in Oklahoma, but I can tell you the information is available on the CLEET website: http://www.cleet.state.ok.us/
If you are a male between 20-29 years old, these are the requirements to be admitted into the academy: 1-minute sit-ups: 38 1-minute push-ups: 29 1.5 mile run: 12:51 Sit and reach: 16.5 inches That's it. As far as grauation from the academy, I have no idea what the requirements are. |

If it is like other academy's, expect yelling, and some more yelling, and then running, and some more running, OH and did I mention YELLING.....
Good Luck Officer! Tom

Remember one thing re the yelling. They are trying to see if you can handle the stress you might face on the street. They want to ensure that when you get called pig and worse or spit on, you don't blow the person away (even though you should be able to lol).
Another thing, they will change the rules at a moment's notice. The thing that was right to do a minute ago is now wrong. Just go with the flow and remember yes sir, no ma'm for the right sex. One of my classmates would consistently say yes sir or no sir to the only female DI due to nervousness. Funny as hell, but we couldn't laugh or we'd get into trouble. Good luck and stay safe. |

And honestly i'm a bit slow on my feet, how can i improve my sprint? ANy and all advice greatly appreciated.

When I was in Boot Camp, I would just think of things I liked to do, like fishing with my dad or hunting or shooting, while I was running my ASS off!
Just keep a mind set that this is what you want to do for the rest of your life. That should be a motivator all on its own. Remember if you can't run in the academy, you won't be a Police Officer. Now with that being said, since you have some time to get ready, Start with a walk and Jog, go for 1 and 1/2 miles to start, every week increase the amount of distance, and reduce the amount of walk, little by little. MAKE SURE YOU STRETCH OUT BEFORE AND AFTER! Also there is one very important thing most recruits forget. They seem to have a mind set that the sit-ups and push-ups are easy, then they get to the academy and FAIL. While your sitting on your hind qaurters at home watching COPS on T.V., during each commercial start doing either situps or push ups. Do enough where you can bust out 40 in a minute of each. The push-ups will help your upper body strength, and that will help you with the bench press. It does not hurt to go to the GYM, and work out also. I have just started getting back into the weight lifting. I am getting to old to fight with these assholes. If I don;t take them in the first three to four minutes, well lets just say, I hope my rookie officers will kick the **** out of them for me! HAHAHA Good Luck and keep it up, Let me know how your doing from time to time. My E-Mail is on my bottom tool bar. Tom

The first day is mostly paperwork! You don't go into custody until later phases of the school. That is for the STATE school. Tulsa actually has their own state accredited school, for Tulsa only, I cannot tel you about theirs, I know that their physical requirements are much stricter than those of the state.
