Not Qualified Enough.....
For the past 5 months I have been going through the process of seeking employment with a local police department. A few weeks ago I got contacted by a Detective who runs you through the process and he notified me that I wasn't qualified enough, which struck me kind of raw. I don't understand how I'm not qualified enough......one point he told me was that I need to get my college degree. I only need 18 more credit hours of school for my Criminal Justice & that's with only my military credits. I just don't understand how I'm not qualified enough when I work in law enforcement in the military & my interview board scores were the highest. If anyone can shine a light on what I need to do to better my chances please inform me, also can a LEO please send me a PM, I want to ask something off the net. Thanks in advance.

The first time i applied for a police department was a small town i lived in. They tested 150 people, and were hiring 2. I was the 3rd highest score on the test, and made it to the top 2 people, when suddenly i was told that "you were 28 seconds too slow on your run, and was sent packing. i later come to find out the son of a cop in that department was hired, and he did not take the test. infact i knew him. what they did was let him just take it at home, he passed, and they hired him. I went to the mayor, and city board and notta, i was SOL, small departments are very picky and will BS you because you are either not super qualified or your daddy doesnt work there

Like everything in life, it's who you know. This is even more true when it comes time to get a job in the public sector.
Be patient, your time will come. The key is to listen to the feedback and do something with the information. Hell, up here in the Chicagoland area (suburbs), they can't find anyone. Pay is $65k plus OT and they can't get good candidates. OS

Out of 10 applicants, I will usually find the following
5 will make a material "misrepresentation of the truth" in their application or background packet in spite of being told that the background investigators job is to check for integrity as much as verifying the information in the packet. 2 or 3 out of the remaining 5 will pass the psychological evaluation. One of those will wash out some other way.... I spend a LOT of time trying to find one or two deputies to hire.... |
