Interview tomorrow; Wish me luck! Give me tips!

I have an interview tomorrow morning at 9:00 for a part time Marine Deputy position this summer. Any tips? I'm wearing khaki dress pants with a sportcoat, dress shirt, tie, and my spit shined work shoes. I can't wait!

Edit: And I forgot; I take my written test on Sunday.

be yourself, be honest, and dont try to Bull**** anything, they will see through it, and you will leave thinking you bombed, but dont worry about it, if you make it past this and the board, you are good to go

+1 on this - give it your best, be yourself. You want the position and can explain why. That's the best way to present yourself. Good luck!

When I am interviewing someone I always check out their clothing. People that are responsible and want the job will dress nicely and clean themselves up. People that show up in jeans and tennis shoes have a quick interview. It sounds like you are all ready dressing up so you got the basics down. It is also nice if you bring a copy of you resume along in case they want to go over some of it in the interview.

Be relaxed and be yourself. When ever I interview (I'm a senior in college and have done tons myself), the best interviews are the ones that we end up talking NOTHING about the job or my job related skills. I'll mention one of my hobbies and it strikes a common interest with the interviewer. Then we end up talking about that for the rest of the interview. So be yourself and sound excited about being there and about anything you are talking about.

Also, I've been told by several employers that an interviewer has made his/her decision in the first 5 minutes of the interview. So first impressions are extremely important. Walk in with a smile, make sure that tell them good morning, and MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD HANDSHAKE. I've actually had interviewers stop and comment on my handshake. A good, deep handshake (your thumb pocket meets theirs) and a firm grip is key.

If you forget everything that we told you, remember this: just be yourself and you can't go wrong.

Haha- Your advice was true; I left all worried, but now I think I did ok...I should have studied up on some of the criminal law a bit more; I know the sections that apply to motor vehicles, but wasn't so sure on the boating/watercraft parts. I was straight with them and think I'll have a good chance at the job. It helps that one of my good friends from my former job is friends with a captain at the Sheriff Department. I'll let y'all know...

I would not sweat the law stuff... you are not supposed to know that yet. That comes with training. I would almost guarantee they were watching your reaction in an uncomfortable situation and grading it.... not the actual answers.

Good luck! keep us posted!

+1

After a rejection phone call after an interview, I asked for some advice. He said one of the interviewers commented that I had a weak handshake

Next interview I made sure to give a good manly shake and I got the job
