Anyone Useing Hornady Critial Duty Ammo?
Had an issue with this ammo in my duty XD 40 S&W (FTF). First ammo I've found that the gun just doesn't like and was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue. My department switched from Federal HS to this new stuff nad my pistol just won't feed it. Tried everything I know to correct it, and got one FTF after another. It feeds the Federal stuff without a hitch - just won't feed the Hornady.

Are you issued XD's? If so, they should have caught this problem. If not, talk to your firearms guy and see if you can get an exception to stay with the federal.

The .40 Critical Defense runs like a sewing machine in my XD.40 4" Service. Have not run any of the Critical Duty yet.
I would take a look at a good cleaning of your mags. Suspect that the polymere tip could be causing just enough sticking to effect the timing. Who knows, but definitely would let your armorer know.

ask your armorer for all new springs, magazines included. if it doesn't run refuse to carry it in that gun

Done and done. Wouldn't run with any mag I (or he) had. Got my exception to stick with the Critical Defense ammo from last year. He told me to keep the rounds I was issued and I tried them in my M&P - they work like they were designed to. The only thing I can figure is the cuts in the jacket on these rounds are sharper then the cuts in the Critical Defense ammo. These must be hanging on the feed ramp, as that's where it fails every time. I thought the red plastic insert in the hollow was designed to prevent that. Guess with my pistol the red tip isn't hitting the ramp just right. Go figure.....
