UAVs coming to a Department near you

With the recent passage of the FAA re-authorization bill, many first responder organizations have been chomping at the bit to obtain and utilize the technology.

Our VP of business dev went on a local news show recently to talk about our UAV, the Maveric, which we are now marketing to First Responders...

Ha. Maybe in the major metro cities. My small- mid-size city can't even upgrade our radios, nevermind buy this stuff.

Actually, most departments are getting grant money from DHS for this kind of stuff. We are sponsoring a grant for the Gainesville, FL PD to get some funding from DHS right now...

I would expect people to go with the scan eagle if anything. Its about time though it would save a lot of money on helicopters.

Scan Eagle isn't doing so hot these days...it seems that Insitu has run their course. They just lost the primary ISR contract to the AeroSonde. Scan Eagles are being pulled out of theater as we speak. They may still find new life in the commercial sector, where they got their start in Tuna spotting...

They have contract companies set up to rent/sell them, fly them, maintain them. They can be launched from anywhere. They would just be easy to get into. There are plenty of better options but not as readily available.
