there's going for a ride, then there's Disneyland

I think this guy got the whole E-ticket experience.

I'm not sure but I think the statie in the vid is the brother in law of a guy my brother grew up w/. Sure sounds/looks like him. Fwiw, my opinion is guy had it coming. Less lethal and less damaging than being clubbed into submission by the baton.

Now that's just priceless. They should put that in a "Why you shouldn't drink and drive video", because obviously people disregard the commercials showing the home movies of kids who are killed, innocent people who are killed, so maybe knowing they might get a little taste of 'electric attitude adjustment' would do the trick. Either way quite entertaining to watch.

that was awesome. Now I kinda want to know what it's like, considering how many times that guy took it.

I think it's retarded that a cop is allowed to shoot you with a taser, but he's not allowed to punch you in the face. I just read that cops in SC tasered a 75 year old woman in a nursing home... but let them punch her in the face and they're being too brutal. Three months ago FL leos tasered a 5 year old and a 12 year old.

IF you're going to shoot someone, dont' fool yourself into thinking you're unlikely to kill them. 74 deaths have been attributed to use of Taser International's popular models. I would have sued that officer for shooting me that many times. It would serve him right if the guy had passed.

even though there have been deaths supposedly attributed to the Tasers, they save more lives of both LEOs and criminals daily.
As for the 75 year old lady and the child, the lady was being combative and physical struggle would have been more dangerous considering her age and condition than the shock from a Taser. As for the child, he was holding a piece of glass at himself threatening to hurt himself. the Taser in that incident caused him to drop the glass and be subdued without harm to him or anyone else.

If anything, the original Tasers aren't powerful enough and Taser has heard the requests are are upping the voltage in their new models. Also Stinger has come out with a new line of products including a new 4 barb gun with about twice the range as well as a new riot shield that has electrodes on the face, which is a fantastic idea. (wish they had this stuff available when I was on the job)

So how would you have apprehended this man?

realizing I'm not a leo, and don't do this every day, I would have called for backup, and either used fists, blackjack, billy club, whatever it is cops get these days for beating people. And wait til backup came along. When the man was aggressing, I would have punched him... IMO if someone aggresses toward an officer, he is allowed to take a reasonable amount of force to protect himself (notice, NOT to make the arrest, but to protect himself)... even if that means striking first. However, he wasn't even getting that aggressive (no punches, just walking in circles.) Then, he got tasered while walking away from the officer and heading toward his car. Wherever I've worked in mental health situations, I have never had a problem restraining a person from behind using my hands and arms, as I have been quicker than these people. That man seemed drunk enough to me that a sober, healthy officer could tackle him. But to taser a man so many times, when he was walking away in the first place, is ridiculous.

A PA State Cop I once knew told me that a cop will only pursue someone if he can do so without unjustly risking someone's life. We're not sure this guy's offense, but if it doesn't warrant potential death, you jot the license number, issue a warrant, and go pick him up in the morning, if he gets away. You do not shoot an unarmed man in the back with something even non-leo's know have been fatal. He probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere anyway, if the officer just let him go.

Anyway, I would do it differently, but then again, I'd have to, since I'm just a citizen anyway and don't get to play by the same rules.

Hm. So beating him down is a better option? You can't subdue a drunk with pain effectively. Impact weapons are far too imprecise to be used in this manner. You will do way more damage than necessary.

I also wouldn't put myself in harm's way that readily.

There is no way that I would take a drunk man down with my bare hands on the side of a highway at nighttime if there are safer alternatives.
