Shot the F.A.T.S. today .

Man you talk about fun . Today I shot the FATS simulater training deal ( firearms scenarios ) I went in a Drug Raid , Biker Gang search warrant , Bar Fight , High speed bank Robbery suspect pursuit . I could not believe how INTO a Game I could get , the realism was great , like a stand up live interactive video game . I shot no innocents , Smoked all my bad guys who were trying to kill me and beat them to the draw while they were sometimes already drawn from behind something . This is the most fun I have had in a long time , this GAMe as I call it actually gets you so involved that you feel adrenaline rushs, blood prsssure going up and you just feel it Man like its almost real , plus the instructer can play into the game through the computer , its awesome . I was told the thing cost 85,000.00 but if I win a lottery I am owning one .

Re: Shot the F.A.T.S. today .

FATS is awesome. I've shot it a number of times and it does get the blood pumping. Had a chance to play on one for about 4 hours one time.

One thing I noticed is that the majority of hits on the target are usually right around the weapon the bad guy is holding. One sees the weapon as the threat and then has a tendency to shoot at it.

ZIPGUN...I can't resist this "opportunity" to use what you said (just to be "funny")!!! The reason people are shooting at the GUNS is because: PEOPLE DON'T KILL...GUNS KILL !!! I hope more LEO'S will voice their "opinion" in response to my "CURIOSITY" posting !!! THANKS to all who generously "contribute" !!! -Brian-

Re: Shot the F.A.T.S. today .

My department rents one of these things for a three day period each year. We run it 24 hrs a day for those three days so that each shift gets covered, and they can come out while they're working, so that the night shift guys don't have to get up in the middle of the morning to come into training. After each officer has been through blind (without seeing any of the scenarios)for training purposes,we allow them to play on it all they want to, changing the scenarios. All of the guys seem to enjoy it, and it is an excellent tactical training tool to add to a departments total firearms training package.

Re: Shot the F.A.T.S. today .

I have a F.A.T.S. at home called Perfect Dark on my N64!
I was just teaching some BG's the terrible price for threatening freedom and democracy late last night. That is until I peppered a couple civilian technicians. The game frowns on that, and advised me to abort.
I did.

Re: Shot the F.A.T.S. today .

I last shot FATS about three years ago. However, my only mistake was only using one round to take down one of the perps. He got back up and zapped me. So much for being a nice guy (but stupid).

Last time I shot FATS I was the only one in the dept that got out of the DV w/knife successfully w/o firing a shot. I talked the guy into giving up. It was the best real world outcome. -Coug

Re: Shot the F.A.T.S. today .

Just got a call from a former officer of mine who does all kinds of training. He just bought his own FATS. I now have a standing invitation to come and shoot it anytime I want. What fun!

Years ago, about ten or so, I used the system and one of the scenarios encountered featured a screaming child being dragged from a park. When confronted the man dragging the child became verbally abusive and the child kept screaming this isn't my father. When asked for I.D. the guy quickly reached behind him and whipped out a small black object. In response to training I drew my weapon and took aim but never fired. The small black item was a wallet, and it was the kids father. I was heavily penalized for drawing down on the guy.

To make a long story short there used to be a t.v. show called 'Real Stories of the Highway Patrol.' On this show one night a female CHiP was in training using the exact same scenario. I watched waiting to see her reaction and she did the same exact thing I did and was congratuted for doing such and received a perfect score?

Oh well, i guess they do things differently in California?
