Where Do These People Come From? Idiots in the Academy
Please, share your academy stupid people stories. Here is mine so far; I'm sure there will be more to add as this is only the beginning of this portion of the class.
Just started the second phase of the reserve program. There are about 30 people in the class and it was the 5th meeting. So I get to class and grab a seat next to the guy I normally talk to. Another guy comes in after I did and tells me that he will be sitting where I am after lunch. So I thought WTF is up w/ that and maybe the guy wanted that particular seat to have access to a power outlet; I do a quick check at the wall and there were none. Then the Chair Nazi says that he will be sitting there for the rest of the semester. So I asked him in a sarcastic tone if it really mattered. His response was that he just wanted to sit there. O-K No sense in going to war over a seat. The Chair Nazi could have asked nicely but he chose to get is panties in a bunch. Later on in the afternoon, the instructor is playing some recorded dispatch calls. The guy standing behind me says that he didn't hear the call get dispatched. So I turn around and tell him that this particular city uses separate call takers and dispatchers. Since I sometimes handle tape requests at my agency, I was going to explain how dispatch positions can be recorded separately and that what we were hearing was the calltaker's line only. Before I even get a few words off, the guy puts his hand on my shoulder and says that he's been doing this for a long time. Exactly what he has been doing? I wouldn't know... O-K |

Please don't let him get put out on the streets with a radar in his hand...
I don't ever want to meet him.

I finished the academy last november and I can tell you that there we some cadets that I wold not put in chare of my dog house. Here in PA the classes are either run by the State Police or a State qualified school with retired Troopers or others in the field. We were put in alpabetical seats and were not allowed to speekup unless called. This did not allway happen depending on the instructor. We did have the Love triangle between 3 cadets (one was the class pres who was later removed of that position). We had the affair of a engaged cadet w/child with another cadet and of couse the other found out and went and kicked the sh*t out of the cadet at work. And the story goes on I just can not think of them all. We did spend 1year together going to night classes 3-4 days a week form 5:30 to 10:00 week nights and 8-5 on weekends. For the most part Iit was a great experience and most of us learned alot, but some I do not know how they made it in. Money plays a big part though because it was a private academy run by state guidelines.

I’ve been lurching here for 6-7 months, but this topic encouraged me to register on the site. Especially since I noticed your also in the bay area. It’s been awhile since I attended the police academy let alone took the reserve classes at the local community college. One thing that really stood out at the reserve classes was the mix of people who attended the courses. There were the major wanna be’s. There was an old lady that just wanted to learn more about law enforcement. There was a drug dealer who was taking the course to learn police tactics. There were the middle-aged folks who wanted to donate time to their community. The majority of the classes comprised of younger college students who wanted to go full time and knew that volunteering was the best way to get picked up by an agency. Intermixed in these groups were some real dweebs. The only specific story that stands out was at the range when a gal that was dating the Administration of Justice Coordinator at the College shot a light pole with a shotgun. I’d like to say that the regular academy was better. I think that as long as agencies encourage people to put themselves through the academy, were going to have this. Agencies won’t pick up most of these people and those that do won’t stay for long. As far as the chair nazi goes, it sounds like he’s pissed about even being in the class. There might be more to the story with this guy. Good luck.

I think I'd get one of those remote controlled "fart machines" and make chair nazis' life a little more interesting.

Teaching a class of cadets for the first time on the range and I actually had a kid tell me he didn't need to take the basic instructional because "I play computer games and know all about guns".
And no, he didn't pass.

You've hit the target dead on.
The agency sponsored ones normally do not cause any problems as they have already passed background. Quote:
