XD40 4" Need a holster interchange! Needed by May 15th.
Hello fellow XD fans....this is my first post here. I start the Law Enforcement Academy on May 15th and I am in need of a holster, I have found some for the XD but I was curious as to wether or not there are any guns that I could interchange a holster with. (I would really like a "Pro-3" holster or something like that) Thanks!

Uncle Mike's has a bunch of Nylon holsters that fit most 3-4" barrel auto pistols. The shape of the XD isn't that much different than a lot of other guns, so there are lots of options available in Nylon or to some extent leather. Basically the only holsters that really need to be designed specifically for the XD are the hard shell Kydex holsters. Happy hunting...

Welcome to the forum. I moved this post to the LEO section to get more exposure for the subject. You might browse through the LEO section as there are numerous post for duty holsters.
Happy shooting and good luck at the academy! |

I've carried my XD-40 service in an Uncle Mike's Pro-3 Size 28 holster for three years now with absolutely no problems.

Do you really need a triple retention holster? My dept requires the same holster you are looking for and most of the Officers hate them. Apparently my draw has always involved some twisting so it wasnt a biggie for me.

As far as retention goes, I subscribe to the theory that one would better be served by becoming proficient at retention techniques. Any mechanical device can and will eventually fail. Learn to defend your weapon. There are many "gizmos" out there now, and I often worry that those LEOs who are not fortunate enough to work somewhere without them (read: poor department) will become dependant upon them. I don't have a problem with Tasers for instance, as long as the person with the Taser is comfortable without it. I don't carry one. I did for a while, and I found that I just wasn't using it. I am comfortable using my hands. One could call it personal preference. I digress.
I use a Safariland 6280 holster for my XD. It was expensive, but is fairly good quality. I am still getting used to the SLS system, but am fairly comfortable with it mechanically. I can't see how it would jam and make me unable to draw. You haven't said what the requirements are for your holster per the academy. If you know what department you are going to when you graduate, are you going to be allowed to carry the XD there? If so them you should get something that will be allowed by the department. If not, then get something cost effective because you probably won't use it much afterwards. Good luck and keep us posted. MC

Thanks for the quick responce and the shift to the correct board. I am going through the academy on my own, no sponsorship....(my pockets hurt) they dont require any certian holster...I just liked the look of the Pro-3 and the retention doesnt really bother me. I would rather learn to use it and not have anyone take my sidearm from me. As for wether or not I can carry it on duty or not...who knows..but if I have no use for it there's always the trading post or Ebay when I'm done with it. There was a size 22 pro 3 on ebay and I almost bought it because I thought that I had read somewhere that the XD did some interchange with the Sig's, but I'm open to suggestions on holsters. I dont really want to pay a whole lot for one, but I dont want to put my gun in something that wont treat it with the same care that I give it.

I've been trying to find some common gun that is compatable with XDs as far as holsters go for some time. Glock 21 was close, but the distance from the top of the slide to the bottom of the dust cover was still to short on the Glock. My next guess is going to be H&K. Sigs are close but IIRC the top isn't as blocky and the trigger guard shape or position was wrong. Good luck and let us know. If you are going through the academy yourself (as I did) then get the cheapest one that they will let you carry!

Well, I've decided to go with the Blackhawk SERPA. I like the option of the slide/paddle. Its something i'll use after the academy. Still interested in interchanges though, as galls/quartermaster carry no duty holsters for the XD.
