Good Lord, why all the drama in this thread?
If the organization's policy permits it and the officer's contract permits it and the need is there then the guy (or gal) works the extra hours and gets paid for it. In that alternate reality known as the Real World it happens all the time. It's called fair compensation for services provided. Whether you are a grocery clerk or a brain surgeon. You do the work and you get paid. Why should cops be any different? Duuuuh. I must be missing something.
