Hit and Run? Ca

Hey,

I was involved in a hit and run auto accident last night. Coming out of the bar with a few friends, two girls in a Silver Rodeo hit my car! Not thinking at the time, I got into the car and drove off after them. I was able to get a few good pictures of the vehicle and plate. However, after they found out they were being followed, they got onto a freeway and drove all the way up to 110?120?ish while swerving through traffic.

After that....I didn't want anyone to get into another accident so I let them go. I was on the phone with CHP during that time, praying a unit was available, but everyone was busy last night. Dispatch told me to move on the shoulder and wait for a officer to come take the report. (That was at 1:15am). I stayed in my car until about 4am. After that, I went home.

I got a call from Sacramento PD this morning saying they were sorry for leaving my out in the cold, and told me to come down to the station to take a report.

I have the plate number, but beyond that is there anything I can do to have damages paid?

A picture of them pulling away at about 100mph on highway 50 in sacramento! lol...I had to use all 12x optical zoom on my DSC-H1

i'm not from CA, and i'm not a lawyer or LEO.

but.

i would hope at least that the officer who took the report would attach the photo, and maybe investigate to see if there's matching damage on the vehicle it goes to.

just having the photo of the plates wouldn't be enough to go after them in and of itself, but it would (i would hope) allow them to at least see if the vehicle has fresh damage on it--which should then be enough to go after them.

ten bucks says they don't have insurance. or were too drunk to realize they'd hit someone.

I'm a cop in a nearby city. Sac PD will investigate and when they find the driver, she will most likely get arrested. Your insurance will sue her (or her insurance) for damages. You can sue her for your deductable.

Call your local DMV, they can pull all kinds of information for you if you have a police report number.

Intent is a fantastic thing.

In Ca., DMV will not give a member of the public personal info about another driver. They used to for about a .75 charge, but that stopped a long time ago. They are too concerned someone will use that info to dish out some vigilante justice.

Did that for a hit and run in '88.
