AFOSI members?
Anyone in here that's in AFOSI or has a friend/family member involved? I'm really not all that satisfied as a USAF programmer (working a software quality assurance office) and am toying with the idea.
My first priority is, once my CCAF (associate's) is finished (which should be happening as soon as my last CLEP score comes back), to start up a package for early release to ROTC. Comm. officer I won't mind, but I've been toying with the idea of looking into OSI should I be awarded the commission. Anyone in the field that can offer any tips? I'm heading to the Offutt detachment's office later today, just thought i'd pop in here while i had some free time. Thanks! |

i'm totally not satisfied with my job either. i mean how many fires can you expect to see on a DoD installation, let alone an AF base!? the schedule is horrable considering we get paid the same as the folks who work a 40 hour workweek. i mean i really don't care about the hours, its just that congress authorized DoD firefighters Hazardous Duty Incentive Pay but the services will not pay for it. I'm scheduled to ETS soon anyways but if I do consider to stay in I got orders to Guam(yay...home!) and i'm gonna sew/pin on Staff Sergeant in August. If I reenlist this time I figure I might as well stay in, but not as Fire Protection.
I think OSI would be a cool job. I saw something about them on Airman magazine and they were getting dirty in the desert, kicking in doors and seizing weapons caches and doing counterintel stuff. |

You think you guys have bad jobs? Try AF SF. Seriously though, every base has an AFOSI detachment. Since you need an superintendent agent to recommend you, you might as well get the info direct...

Back when I was a young troop I just called them up and told them I was interesting in being OSI and could I come in and talk to someone. Made an appointment and went in and talked to an agent. Sounded like a great job, but since my wife was a foreign national they seemed to think that I would have a hard time getting past the vetting process. Good luck on what ever choice you make.

I used to be an SF officer and worked with OSI a lot, especially over in Iraq. Yeah, they get some cool gucci gear and get to be all tactical and stuff, but keep in mind that yes, the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, however the bills are higher.
Kinda a big difference between a com officer and OSI tho huh? If you PM me about what your interests are I can definately give you my two cents. The officer corps is a lot different when it comes to career fields than the enlisted side. lemme know |
