Hulk, how about posting the Fed. law that YOU read ("as I read it...") that says that possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 21 is illegal?

I stand corrected. If Indiana gives out ccw permits, I must be wrong. Thanks for clarifying it for me.

Come on now!
I started that thread and know the legal dealio pretty well. I dont like the bashing of anyone because of his interpretation. Calm it down.

Realistically the law is soo poorly written it leaves large holes open to allow someone under 21 with enough money to possess a gun because the litigation process would take forever.

In summation- You cant assume that just because it doesnt say you can't, doesnt mean you can

Yes, Indiana will issue a permit for a 18-20 year olds. The proviso is that a parent or gaurdian must give their consent and sign a form that they will "be responsible" for the minor. They must also purchase the weapon and ammo for the minor untill thee reach 21. This does make it possible for a minor to carry a handgun in that state but only that state, recognization of the Indiana permit does not include persons under 21. This is not stated but is agreed on between IN and it's "partner" states.

Want2: Not too much interpretation skill or finding of "holes" in the law required here. If one can read and understand the English language, and if one has any experience in reading legal writing, this is a no-brainer. Minors, AS DEFINED in the code section to which Saxon refers, are "persons under the age of 18." How much simpler could it be? Didn't mean this thread as a personal bashing, just a sad commentary that a l.e.o. of 16 years has such poor reading, WRITING, and comprehension skills, but, honestly, I'm not at all surprised. The hiring standards for l.e.o.'s in small rural towns are pretty low.

The ONLY prohibition regarding handguns OWNED OR POSSESSED in the GA code BY 18-20 YR-OLDS is that section describing carrying in a motor vehicle and who qualifies for a firearms license. THERE IS NO PROHIBITION IN GA OR FED LAW AGAINST 18-20 YR-OLDS FROM BUYING HANDGUNS IN A PRIVATE SALE, NOR ARE THERE ANY PROHIBITIONS IN THE GA CODE REGARDING 18-20 YR-OLDS FROM POSSESSING A HANDGUN, with the previously-stated caveat regarding having a loaded handgun in a motor vehicle and who qualifies for a firearms license.

This information is general knowledge. I find it amusing that it's even being debated.

Edited: Just copied this from the Indiana Code. IBN/75th, would appreciate a reference to the section of the Indiana Code that requires parental permission. Thanks.

"The superintendent may not deny a license under this section because the information required under this subsection is unavailable at the time the superintendent would otherwise issue a license. The state police department may accept private donations or grants to defray the cost of printing and mailing the information required under this subsection.
(g) A license to carry a handgun shall not be issued to any person who:
(1) has been convicted of a felony;
(2) has had a license to carry a handgun suspended, unless the person's license has been reinstated;
(3) is under eighteen (1 years of age;
(4) is under twenty-three (23) years of age if the person has been adjudicated a delinquent child for an act that would be a

felony if committed by an adult"

IBN75th: How about that Indiana Code cite on parental permission? Seems logical that somebody other than the 18-20 yr-olds would have to buy the ammuntion, but I'd like to see how Indiana worded their code section requiring parental permission for the 18-20 yr-olds to own/possess handguns and that the parents are responsible.
