Can anyone expand on this for me?

When I was living in Atlanata, I was working in a town called Kenesaw, Ga. I saw this tag on a car that said "Its the law in Kenesaw" super-imposed over teh picture of a revolver. So I ask teh guy whos car it was what that was all about, and he tells me there is a law on the book in teh city of Kenesaw that every household in the city limits must have at least one gun. Is this true? What are the crime rates like? How many jealous lover murders happen there instead of retards breaking into houses to rob them? Any information would be cool!

Try this: Kennesaw, and, and.

But, from the city's own site: Gun Law Ordinances

I read a story a few years back about an elderly woman who lived in the town. She went to the police and said she could not aford a gun to stay in step with the law. They got her one and showed her how to use it. Upon her death, it was to be returned to the police. Haven't heard anything else on it.

The girl I work with lives in Kennesaw. She says in the entire time she's lived there, the only crime she can think of is one car robbery.

She told me that she doesn't own any guns (I don't think anyway...), and that no one has ever come by asking to make sure they do. But I guess that's what makes the law so successful; the bad guys don't know which do and which don't.

I personally love that law, although I do see the side about mandating people to do one thing or another being anti-free...meh. Oh well.

It was never passed with any intention of enforcing it, it was a counterpoint to Conyers, GA, a city that banned all guns in the city.

There is some little city in VA that also has a law requiring gun ownership. If you don't have one, the city will issue you one. Somewhere down in the coal country, I believe.

Speaking of which, I can't stand Conyers.

How is that possible, when Georgia has a preemption law:

16-11-184.

(b)(1) No county or municipal corporation, by zoning or by ordinance, resolution, or other enactment, shall regulate in any manner gun shows, the possession, ownership, transport, carrying, transfer, sale, purchase, licensing, or registration of firearms, components of firearms, firearms dealers, or dealers in firearms components.

I dunno how they got away with banning all guns, but in regards to Kennesaw's law of gun ownership, I agree with the thought that it was a nifty law passed in counterpoint to another assinine law. I don't know if they would enforce mandatory gun owndership law in Kennesaw, but it would allow for such things as issue of firearms by the powers that be.
I wish this was more common....
