Disturbing Trend
As of March 5th there has been a 44% increase of in the line of duty deaths compared to the same time frame from 2005.
2006 is shaping up to be a bad, bad year.......up 44%, after only 2 months and summer isnt even here yet......yikes the numbers are from the NLEOMF website. (my dept put the numbers in our daily bulletin this week) stay safe boys n gals..........

Where about on the website can this info be found? I looked and was unable to find much that was more current than 2004. I question what is considered LOD death as one officer listed I personally knew and he died of a cardiovascular problem. In this state certain heart and lung diseases are considered to be duty related by law and seeing this makes me wonder about the reporting criteria of NLEOMF. In any event, a small change in deaths in this short of time can drastically change the ratio, by the end of the year it could still be one of the safest. I guess I'm just leery of percentages using a fairly small data base.

Yes...be careful out there!
I have noticed in the last year or so, that crooks in Houston have gotten bolder and bolder. Longer, more dangerous car chases...shooting at the police more often, instead of fleeing...all sorts of bold, crazy behavior. Much of this is done by illegal immigrants, Katrina evacuees or those in the drug trade. I don't know if our overall crime rate is up that much, but the crazyness of the criminals is definately something I do notice. Alot of it has to do with the illegal immigrants and their trade and all the New Orleans Katrina evacuees that were criminals in NO, and are making Houston their home. Nice. - Brickboy240

You must be on guard
Illegal immigrants and the legal immigrants around my City have already been involved in many shootings and killings. Last night at a taco stand a guy tried to hog into a line of people buying food. When he was told to get in line he went to his pickup and returned with a handgun shooting and killing one man. and trying to shoot another then made his escape with a woman and two children in his pickup. What this tells me is soon when an officer trys to arrest or detain one of them they better be ready for a shootout.

Out where I work there is a guy on parole. He carries a gun in his car. Cops say they can't touch him until he breaks the law.

Thanks for the info. He's already threatened someone at work. Just have to figure out how to figure out who his PO is. This is a three county area.

unless things have changed, dude is also committing a new felony. convicted felons shall not be in possession of a handgun. not just a parole violation, but a felony, federal gun control act of 1968. now then, what makes you think he has a gun, and why isn't this information enough for leo's to act on it on their own, much less contact the PO to conduct a search based on reasonable suspicion? dean cincinnati xd40service xd9sc dean cincinnati xd40service xd9sc
