That depends a lot on where you live. Generally cased and unloaded with ammo separate, inaccessible from the driver's seat will be good to go anywhere. But IANAL and this is not legal advice

Keep it in the trunk/hatchback. Unloaded, or if you have a range bag, or something like that. That way, if you get pulled over, you can tell them there is a handgun, but it's locked in the trunk, unloaded, or it's way back there in the bag.

As long as the mags are not with the gun in its "locked compartment" you should be fine.

Totally dependent on state law.

" KRS 527.020 Carrying concealed deadly weapon.

( A firearm or other deadly weapon shall not be deemed concealed on or about the person if it is located in a glove compartment, regularly installed in a motor vehicle by its manufacturer, regardless of whether said compartment is locked, unlocked, or does not have a locking mechanism. No person or organization, public or private, shall prohibit a person from keeping a firearm or ammunition, or both, or other deadly weapon in a glove compartment of a vehicle in accordance with the provisions of this subsection. Any attempt by a person or organization, public or private, to violate the provisions of this subsection may be the subject of an action for appropriate relief or for damages in a Circuit Court or District Court of competent jurisdiction. "

Interestingly, the trunk is not mentioned, although common sense would say that it is OK, too.

Am I right in assuming that in Kentucky, the officer has descretion to determine concealed/nonconcealed in a vehicle, Hulk XD?

You are correct, Kydoc. What I may deem as concealed may be different then what another officer deems. Obviously, the glove compartment and the trunk don't count as illegally concealed.

We use what's known as the three move rule. It will take more than three moves to get to your firearm inside your glove box. (lean, reach, turn/push knob, reach, grab, pull) Likewise the trunk.

But, under your seat is two moves and bang. (reach, grab, bang) In the center console is a grey area, because it's close, and they are made different.

Also, it has to do with the visual capabilities of the officer him/herself. I, on one hand, am 6'5". On the other hand, my good friend is 5'4"! Our perspectives of your vehicle will be totally different!

Of course, if you have a ccwp, then you don't have anything to worry about.

I will be carrying my gun and ammunition seperately for now on when hitting the range! My gun will definitely be in the trunk and not holstered in plain conspicuous sight on my waist.

In MN it is cased and unloaded and you can have it any where in the car

Look up your state laws.

Generally if it's in the truck and unloaded, you should be fine.
