.[/quote] How hard would it be for you to get a copy of your state's laws governing carrying firearms in vehicles and read it for yourself? Why would you need somebody to explain something like that to you? Get a copy of the law. Carry a copy of the law with you, unless, of course, the law says that the quote from the Sheriff's website is incorrect. |

I have a copy of the law, it doesn't clearly state what I am asking about. |

Texas just passed a vehicle carry law where you don't have to have a CHL to have a weapon in the vehicle. What I consider strange about it is they say the weapon has to be "100% Concealed". There can be nothing visible and you don't have to disclose to the officer, when stopped, that you have a weapon in the vehicle. It cannot even be in the door pocket. If the DPS Officer can see it from the far side window or if he asks you to step out of your car and he sees it when you open the door, you can be cited. I am not an LEO, but if I were, I would much rather be able to see if someone has a weapon with them. That kind of goes hand in hand with staying in the vehicle. I would much rather see the person standing at the rear of the vehicle with his hands in sight than to have to approach from the back and not know what is happening in the vehicle. I understand the driver's safety is the concern and there may be other issues, but nowadays it seems that alot of Officers are getting shot or runover for simple traffic stops. Like I said, I am not an LEO. JMO.

All I know is laws about guns in vehicles are just weird. They don't make much sense. Ok.. they say no guns under seats, in consoles, or gloveboxes.. that's for Nebraska. The state trooper I talked to made sure to make that point several times, just don't put them in there. Reason being is they are too readily accessible. If that's so, then why can I put my gun on my passenger seat? All I have to do is reach over and grab it. Other ways I would have to reach over, open a compartment, or reach under a seat and fumble around trying to grab it.. all those other ways would take longer for me to actually get the gun. Don't get me wrong, I understand that the gun being visible has lots to do with an officer being able to see it so he knows to be aware that you have a gun. If you were to reach into a glovebox for registration, and come out with a gun that wasn't seen that's what is bad. But since they say it's because those ways are too accessible.. but on top of my seat isn't?
Anyway as to my switching of the holster to the other side.. it appears it's holding.. I used permanent type double sided tape made for outdoor purposes so it's resistant to moisture and temperature. I had to do a few layers of tape here and there to fill up small gaps due to the circular shape where the holster mounts onto the hip attatchment. That's why I'd like to get a left handed holster, so the side I use to mount it is mostly flat and will hold more tape lengthwise on the holster and with 1 layer. But, it's now visible from either side of the vehicle so I'm not worried about getting in trouble for it. I don't carry it around all the time anyway, one big reason I wanted it is for when I drive interstate back between here and my parents house. So I think it will serve the pupose I need it for, at least until we find out if the CCW bill passes here this year. It's better than leaving it sitting on a seat where it can slide off if you hit the brakes. |
