Hello All,
Wow series thread drift Nikon and Iniquitry and others brings forth some excellent points. Given that I'm new here I havent established the history on many members, nor has my history been established with you. More and more LEO's are being routed for corruption and lack of self-emotional control. Those on the streets and the same for those that walk the cell blocks. Recently a LEO in California is now being brought up on criminal charges for shooting an unarmed man. Power over others is very addicting and unfortunately can easily be abused. As was pointed out earlier it does start at the top. Primarily through lack of controls within command structure. However it still falls to the individual choice to do or not do, to overlook or to take action. Overlooking is quite common is it not? Selfcontrol over oneself is tatamount to proper policing actions. When lack of control happens, criminal charges are leveled, civil lawsuits occur, and the depts image is tarnished. For me, the number one thing I quickly learned from my proffession you do not want to do something that would cause you to live where you use to work For me *public trust* is mandatory on my expectation list. Unnessasary force is unacceptable, pulling someone over prior to having resonable cause is abusive. Beating someone down due to lack of emotional self control is wrong no matter if it was a high speed chase etc. and Plea bargining is an aboration of the justice system. Sentences need to reflect the crime charged/s. Sentence of DEATH needs to be carried out quickly within 3-5 years (sooner actually). 1st custody placement needs to be for the duration of sentence. Mininum custody levels need to go away. DUI centers need to be for those that have no other prior felony arrest history. Personal comforts should not be allowed. Hard labor crews mandatory. I could go on and on about how confinement needs to be handled in the USA. Those that have been adjudicated are confirmed/ bonafied Adam Henry's. I believe that once convitcted then all Constitutional rights be romoved from them. When I have a police contact I want it to be proffessional, courteous and respectful most first contacts are made from traffic violations initiated by the officer. Very few contacts are on the "Protect you from" all others tend to be "after the effect" the crime has already occurd that needs the police attention. I believe that the Police need to be allowed to do thier job effectively, pay scale, tools/equipment need to be current, support networks need to be in place for themselves and families. Yes I also agree that LEO's are very good people, however they are clannish and elitest amongst / within their community itself. Very few will venture into relationships beyond the LEO circles. Truly they keep themselves OTJ 24/7. In doing this, attitude towards the general public are formed based on thier contacts and discussion amongst themselves 24/7. Opinions are created and these perceptions become real and true. It's human nature and most pointedly so amongst those that face regular combat ...Brotherhood... Peace Tal~

Back on topic. I'd stop the car in the far left lane. It is a violation of state law and local ordiances to drive in the passing lane. Unless they were really a-holes with me, I defiantely wouldn't write them a ticket (unless they didn't have insurance or somethng). I'd just explain to them the reason they shouldn't be in the left lane if they choose to only go the speed limit, then send them on their way.
Also, I don't think more officers are corrupt or just generally bad. I think in the last 20 years, the police have gotten much better. Due to higher hiring standards and better training. The media is just reporting such events more. |

Hello pfccypret.
I agree with you Makes good sence to me, and is a very reasonable approach. Sometimes it takes just a little proffessional time and effort to educate others. Yes, of course better screenings and hiring practices have made a huge difference in the LEO ranks. Back in my day alot of the CO's I was around were truly ego driven knuckle draggers. Back to one of my earlier statements its unfair to paint a broad stroke of others actions to group the true proffessionals in that same mentality and demeanor. Yes, the press is documenting more and more abuse based on the paliferation of civilians with recorders etc. However if the abuses were prevelent in the first place then the media wouldnt have any LEO abuse issues to report Keep an eye on your six.. Peace Tal~

I agree with Retired and Brickboy.
You guys said it better than I could have. I'm glad there are a lot of fair LEO's out there. I'm not a criminal or anything, but I have been pulled over for traffic stops a few times in my 7 years of driving. Overall, the local Harris County Sheriffs have been more than fair to me. Have received many warnings when I could have gotten a ticket. Maybe that's because I'm a college student with my head on straight and not a crackhead with a rap sheet. I really appreciate that they could see the difference.

Maybe this was mentioned in the thread and I just missed it, as I kind of skimmed through. This exact scenario made national news couple of weeks ago. College students drove four abreast on an interstate, causing big backups. They were trying to make the point of how ridiculous interstate speed limits are; doubt if they'll succeed.
