Tough situation! Mr. Stevens was absolutely correct in his actions, but there could still be some legal problems. I'd hate to see him get taken to court for a wrongful death civil suit.

But, it just goes to show what a competent person with a CCW permit and good maksmanship can do for society.

Was the deadman on PCP? 5 shots to the torso, 4 from a .45ACP and he was still fighting. Wow!

In a press conference, the Police Department, announced that the killing was justified and that Mr. Stevens will not be charged with anything. It is legal in louisiana for a third party to use deadly force to protect a life of another. I think louisiana is also the only state that has an open-carry law (not that I've seen anyone do this).

South Dakota also allows open carry and I do it quite often. I occasionally get an odd look, but most people reason that I must have a need for it so no questions.

Unbelieveable. The response I got from a friend on this one. I emailed the article link out as a sad story but a thankfullness that there are good citizens out there. A long time sorta friend emails me back and says,

Friend - "So let me get this straight; this guy shoots an unarmed man?"

Me - "He didn't know he was unarmed at the time. He saw the guy attacking a police officer who was screaming for help".

Friend - "Well I would have put him down with a headlock first"

Me - "Are you crazy? And maybe get yourself killed?"

Friend - "Well maybe you'll get lucky and get to kill someone with your gun someday".

Needless to say I wrote the Jack*** and told him never to email me again. Unbelieveable.

I used to work at my parents old convenience store in the ghetto and since then I live by this rule, "If a person does not have enough respect for his own life (by forcing me into a dangerous situation) then I don't see why I should respect his and gamble my own." That guy knew or should have known that he is putting his life in danger by attacking an armed man, a LEO at that.

The local news also read some viewers comments this morning, and it just shows how ignorant some people are here are two:

1. A lady wrote, "I would only shoot to maime, not kill". -guns are not meant to be a deterant!

2. Another lady wrote, "If Mr. Stevens was such a great shot why didn't he just shoot the guy in the leg to get him off the officer" - no comment.

Maybe, but it said he got his gun from his car, which means he probably didn't have a holster on him, where is he going to put his gun while he wrestles with the guy?

Do you know the specifics of the law? I have never heard of it. www.opencarry.org has it listed as "anomalous" open carry state.
