Its different for every department and state. here in IL(aka Obamaland) you take the physical test if you pass then move on to the written test or the other way depending on the department. After you pass the first, two test then you get a interview. Then if they like you they will give you the real application, which is like 20-30 pages. After you fill that out they do a full background check. Also during this time, you get a physical and they send you to a shrink to see if your normal. Then they call you in for the final interview with the fire/police board and the chief for the final interview. if they like you, you ship off to the next available police academy. (this takes about 1-9 months depending on the department and how fast they want you)

honestly after everything is said and done. I think the hardest part is the probation/FTO(especially when the guy is full of himself{and most cops are})where you have to kiss everyone's ass and MAKE SURE u don't step on anyone's foot. If you don't like someone don't tell anyone. you might never know the guy u tell is his best friend.

I applied online to our local county sheriff's office and received an email saying that the testing will be on the 21st of this month.

It says they are doing the written, agility, first interview, and fingerprinting all on that day...

I wasn't really prepared for it to come up this soon so what do I need to do to prepare?

What would I wear to a testing day like this? It's cold here!

Will I find out my results right away?

It's a very large department...will I even have a shot at getting in with no experience or degree? (almost done with associates).

I am 21 with an immaculate record.

Will I actually have an interview and get to complete all of the tests or do I just get failed if I don't pass one?

Thanks for any light you can shed on this...I am excited but really nervous. I have never done anything like this before.

I can't help you be a Police officer, but being a Marine I have some advice on getting in shape.

Don't go lifting you don't have time for it to help.

If your going to run, there is no point in building up lactic acid this late in the game.

Either if its warm enough find kids playing ultimate frisbee and play, and play hard. Seriously will help you the most in this short an amount of time.

If your doing a long run do my second option.

or do a crossfit style run every other day and walk the days inbetween (nothing over 600m, start slow end fast each leg, if your in shape to run 3 miles as in straight, do 3 miles if not, do 2 miles no leg more than 350m, most in the 100-200m and do 10 second break after eacch, do an exercise ie 10 quats, 15 push ups, 20 crunches, 2 exercises should be dead sprints, one should be some sort of jumping ie on and off a bench 15 times)

Don't take this the wrong way but what kind of shape are you in? tell js that and be honest, and what the test is and I'll be able to help you out a lot more.

Oh, interview, wear nice shoes, look them in the eye, if they ask you if you have any questions, ask them something about why they do this or something intelligible, they remember the questions they are asked more than the answers to their own.

What's Going On In KS | Ultimate Players Association seriously go play its worth the drive, fastest way to loosen up your legs, don't play back to back, it will screw you up so fast you won't recover in time for the test, take it easy the first 5 points don't go all out ever, won't help. Your going to go do puppy dog practice to pass your test. and its free training. If you don't have fun smile and keep going, if you do its a bonus (I love it some of my friends HATE it they still play as exercise)

We need more laws to protect these three rights. Ban guns in schools, it obviously works.

+1 Wired

That's what I went through on 2 different occcasions when I applied and was accepped at 2 different PD's.

As to what to wear - it depends on whether your agality test are inside or out and how cold it is.

I wore sweats one time and shorts the other time.

You could always carry a gym bag in your car & switch to whatever clothes you need to.

I'm sure you'll do fine - good luck.
