1st set of handcuffs, need opinions
Hey all you leos out there, tomorrow morning I'm buying my first set of cuffs to be used in academy. We can use ASP, S&W, and Peerless, chained or hinged. What are your preferences or opinions? Leaning towards chain and unsure on brand. I like the looks and features of ASP and the S&W M&P cuffs. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm not a LEO, but my advice is "Don't get the ones with fur on them!"

handcuffs
i personally prefer the Smith and Wesson Model 100 M&P LEVER LOCK handcuffs. No key is required to double lock them, just a small lever pulled up by your thumb is needed to double lock the cuffs.

I would also go with the Peerless. I like the chained, but ive been using the hinged for the last few months. A lot easier to apply, and a lot easier to apply on bigger guys. Either way, Peerless is quality stuff.

I think the chained are easier to get on a fat person. Although hinged is easier to "load". Very important here. Keep every receipt you get for equipment, ammo, firearms ect they are all write off's for uncle sam.

I carry S&W, one pair of chained and one pair of hinged. I primarily use the chained cuffs, but the hinged ones come out for the big guys. Also, if somebody looks like they are going to be unruly, I put 'em in the hinged. You can exert a tremendous amount of control with the hinged at that vulnerable moment when you only have the cuffs on one wrist. Some of it depends on the size of your hands as well. If your have smaller hands, the chained cuffs can be difficult to retain a proper grip on during cuffing.

I have two peerless. One Hinged (primary) and one chained. I love the hinged due to the control you have if you get one cuff on and the guy decides he doesn't want to be arrested any more. Anyways, Peerless is a quality.

Well I went to the big 20% off sale at GTs and got all my academy gear. For cuffs I went with Peerless and got one chained and one hinged. Now just wait till academy starts. And hope I win the Bushmaster in the raffle GTs had going.
