S&W Hinged are what i use... nothing controls an unruly inmate like a twist on a hinged cuff

I've been put in both... I liked the chained ones better. They were more comfortable while riding to the station in the back of the cruiser. Not sure on brand.

+1

The hinged ones F-n Hurt!!!!

BTW, how many brands use the "same" key?

I have an handcuff key my father gave me, that rides in a small slit in the back of an old belt I used to wear.

When I was a kid I wanted to be Houdini, so I would practice getting out of cuffs.

Good pick. I currently have three sets of Peerless and one set of S&W. All are chained. I find the chains easier to get on when you have to fight the cuffs onto a suspect. That little bit of wiggle room makes all the difference. The hinges are a little more secure, though.

I carry two Peerless on my duty belt, one Peerless on my tac-vest (along with flex-cuffs) and the S&Ws ended up as spares in my duty bag. Our jailers prefer the Peerless cuffs in either chains or hinges. They have the power to kick the prisoner back to me and require a medical clearance from a hospital (takes a couple hours around here) so I try to keep them as happy as possible.

Lol our jail has a personal medical wing and if it is not life threating they do it. What do they care to begain with?

That's what I say.

Ours is a small jail, they just have a few nurses on staff. For medical clearance, we have to go to the local hospital. We automatically take a prisoner if force was used during the arrest, if they have obvious injuries or if we have personal knowledge of relevant medical history. Otherwise they don't collect their $200. Once we get to booking, a nurse checks vitals and a booking officer asks a series of medical questions. Some of the questions will earn an automatic clearance (Have you had a head injury in the past 30 days?) and some they just deal with (Have you used drugs or alcohol in the past 3 days?) unless you piss off the jailer, in which case he can send you back for med clearance for anything.
