Got ranking for PA State Police
Well I've gone through the written and oral exams for the PA State Police and yesterday I received my ranking on the eligibility list. Out of 1,745 I place 314... not terrible (top 20% anyway), but really not sure if it's good enough. From here they will pull from the list based on need for further testing.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on what number or percentage they (agencies, but specifically the PA State Police) take for more testing. There's a trooper that works one day a week at my current job and from what he had said earlier it seems like it's more of a percentage. Any guesses on what that number might be? Thanks.

Not PA---sorry, but in comparison, we just had 900+ applicants. 700 passed. They offered testing (PT and Oral interview) to 125. 30% failed the PT test day 1. The remaining will be interviewed. We are looking to hire 10-15 personnel...if the budget holds.
Best of luck, I commend you on your effort--hang in there...your day will come.

Good Luck Spyder I am in the same situation I have passed the written and physical test here in NE and now I am waiting to be selected hopefully here in January ... I am also in the top 20% out of around 900 so we will see.
Best of luck.

i really don't think thats bad at all. i had a friend who was ranked 83 and he got a call in 1 year and that was a small department. You need to understand those other 82 above you are not just sitting around waiting for that 1 department, they apply other places too, so over time ur 314th spot gets really moved up since people find other department, some of them get into trouble bumping them off the list, move to another state. So i would thinkg PA state police is a big department. so that would be faster.

I think you have a legitimate shot at getting hired, if you of course interview at least decently, criminal background is spotless (lot of applicants they SHOULD be picky on this one now days again thankfully) and are decently in shape.
That being said I'd apply to other places, and if they ask say yes, but the moment i'm offered this job I'm ready to take it even if others have offered me a job, I"m waiting until I know if this one pans out (saying its your number one choice)

Just wanted to post an update! I got a letter in the mail a couple days ago from the PA State Police for a conditional offer of employment. So yeah, my ranking was good enough to move on to the next part. As long as I pass the physical readiness test, polygraph test, background investigation, and psychological evaluation (which I SHOULD), things should be good to go! I've got about a month before the physical test, so I've got some time to get in a little better shape. I'm pretty excited.
