I can remember my polygraphs----2x because of a hiring freeze. They told me on the 2nd PG-3rd run I had a response to 2 questions that I didn't in the previous 2 runs. Basically I was in a room in the basement of Police HQ for about 2hrs sitting in a semi-comfy chair with all kinds of gadgets strapped to me and one time they told me my breathing was too shallow and the next time it was too fast. I think they were playing with me, but it's a different ballgame now. They will screw with your mind in the Academy just to separate men from boys...

Well my next step is the MMPI and oral boards. After that I get my conditional offer and the "intense background check" as they call it.

I had to fill out a packet of questions that took about an hour and a half. Normal questions, drug history, tickets, undetected crime, and stuff like that. For me the next step was going through the whole packet with the Det. lucky for me I knew the guy so we kinda shot the sh## for a while. Then the test, I dont know if they look for the most intimidating looking chair but this thing looked like an electric chair with freakin cushins on it. They went over the questions with me that would be on the test then strapped me in. It was three sets of ten questions with a break in between. Same questions each time to see if there is any variation. My only advice is tell them everything upfront and once in the chair don't think to much just say yes or no. They went over the results about fifteen minutes later. What ever you do don't do what I did and start laughing during the test, it messes it all up. Total time about three and a half hours.

They do look for intimidating chairs, rooms, tables, etc... It really is a stress test more than anything. The put you under stress so that you're more likely to have emotional responses if you try to lie.

I once got fired for flunking a polygraph test even though i was innocent.

When I finished MP school ahead of the rest of my platoon back in '79 they used me for a test subject at the polygraph school at Ft. McClellan. I took lots of tests over several days as the students learned how to administer and read them.

Man I was just out of boot camp and AIT so I was sleep deprived and I kept going to sleep during some of the tests.

Polygraph test is the biggest bs. It really doesn't tell if your lying its more like how the polygraph tester feels like for that day. If polygraph test is so accurate why do you think courts do not allow any polygraph test. Because it proven to be BS.
