We don't have Chargers, but a couple of neighbors do. The biggest thing I noticed was that the back doors don'topen very far. Couple that with a cage and it would be pretty tough to fight someone into the back seat.
The trunks are configured differently as well. They are real close to the vic in cubic feet, but Stop Sticks won't fit on the trunk lid mount on the Charger.
The bottom line is, we need a big car to carry all our junk.
Thats why I liked the Dakota. Had a "camper shell" on it. Wonder if I still have pictures of the thing on my server.........

The 007 experience at BeavRun is not an EVOC course. It is an experience made to entertain. There is a huge difference between driving in a controlled environment like that and actually having to do it on the street. I'm sorry to tell you that.
Bimmer and Benzs are too damn expensive and in todays economy the public would sh!t a brick about the cops buying an import mark. This happened where I grew up when ISP, Boise PD and Ada County SO went with BMW bikes over the slow and unreliable piece of crap Harleys that would, no kidding, rattle parts off of the electronics just from the engine idling.
I agree with the fact that Japenese Cars are small. But theres plenty of German cars that would deffently give you guys an upper hand with catching cars like STI's. I'm good friends with the brass at our local PD and They asked me to come along with my car during a driving training session so they could try to figure out an advantage they had with their Vic's I pretty much showed them unless they get them to pull over or or catch them off the bat. They arn't going to.
that being said theres gotta be a Bimmer or something you want to try.
Also take it for what its worth but Im EVOC certified with a Vic (police interceptor FD'ized) Suburban and a big ol Firetruck.
I was just sent this from a local cop. Chevy may be importing the Holden Commodore under Chevy badging as a PD car. It was supposed to be the basis for the Pontiac G8 GT. This wouldn't be a bad import to have for a PD car. RWD V-8 already used as a patrol car. Ford has the Falcon as well in Australia with RWD and a V-8 that may become the crown vic replacement in a year when Ford kill that platform off.

I'd rather see the G8 as a squad car...the Holden works but the G8 is a bit bigger.
And you can catch up to a car all you want, if you don't have the weight to push them around with, you're not doing much besides spinning yourself out.
It's pretty pointless to make a car that's light and fast, considering it would be a useless car for the US market. Can a vic catch up to anything remotely fast? Not really...but unless the runner is able to outrun a helicopter and radio waves, I don't really see why the squad cars need the speed. They'll cut 'em off somewhere up ahead.
The issue is that Pontiac is being killed off. The Commodore is the same car but with a different badge on the nose. Maybe it will become the new RWD Impala SS in the civilian world.

We have impalas. Even they are on the small side for a police car. Another issue that comes to mind that hasn't been mentioned on here is MAINTENANCE. You have to understand that police cruisers are always in use and when not being driven are always idling. Along with the fact that they are driven harder than civilian vehicles. Maintenance is a key issue, and when dealing with import brands as mentioned, the price just adds up even more. Also, I don't believe any european brands offer a police package for the American market. You have to understand that all police packages are much different than the civilian model. Sure, my impala looks like an average civilian impala but it also has upgraded breaks, suspension, chassis, etc.
We have gone to Dodge Chargers after going to Chevy Impalas, which we got after using Dodge Intrepids, which we ordered after getting away from Ford Crown Victorias.
The Chargers are fast and mean-looking, but I wish we would go back to the Crown Vics.

Not to sound like a complete a** but what "brass" has the time to get you to come and help them figure out how to catch kiddies in their little import cars? You want us to tell you that import cars are superior to domestic cars in the police market....they might be someday, but today they are not.

He!!, our brass couldn't catch a kid on a tricycle, much less show us how to run a vehicle pursuit.
There is not an import made that will do everthing a Crown Vic will do that the Vic can't do better, cheaper or both.
