I wanted to mention one thing here. If you shoot her in the heart and lungs, it doesn't matter if you hit her with a shotgun slug or a rifle, she won't die instantly. They always get up and run, unless you catch one of the shoulders, which keeps them from using the front leg and will put them down. Even though they don't get up and run, they still don't die instantly. When you shoot a deer through the heart and lungs, they basically die from lack of oxygen, because they no longer can get it into the blood, or they loose so much blood that it can't carry enough. The only way to make a "quick kill" or almost instant one, is a shot to the head, and as you see in my photos, even that doesn't always do the trick if it doesn't hit the right part of the brain. I just say this, so that you realize it ain't about the "pistol" it has to do with shot placement and the particular way that it immobilizes the animal. The .44 mag is a very hard hitter at 30 yards, so no reason to doubt it, just don't be surprised if an animal gets up and runs if you only make a heart/lung shot.

Here's a pic of my first Pheasant, bagged it this weekend.
It was a little stiff at time of photo, shot it at 8:20 am, and spent the rest of the day looking for #2, to no avail. Anyways, it wasn't decapitated, it just had it's head stuck under his wing.

That's my wife's little dog's butt in the b/g. Half Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, half Chinese Crested (mix pretty and ugly, didn't turn out that bad). I'm the handsome one holding the bird.

My son, joining in the fun. He's 3 now, won't be too long before he's joining me in the field

Hopefully I can add something to this thread in the way of pictures soon. Going out Thanksgiving weekend with my best friend again to try for some more deer, also boar and fox open this weekend so I will be packing a scoped .223 for fox, and my super redhawk .44 for deer, I'll let him take any boar shots with his .300 WSM.

My dad lives in MN. He shot a good sized fork horn buck last week. My mom said she had never seen a deer with so much fat on the body. 2" thick covering the hind quarters and even marbling of fat in the meat.

Me thinks you guys are in for a cold winter this year.

Here's my spike buck from a week and a half ago:

Sons First Deer

My older son shot this little doe back around Thanksgiving.

It's his first deer. Little thing, but it tastes great!

Does a crossbow count as archery or something else? That's the first time I've seen one used to take something (granted, I'm not a hunter).

In Ohio at least, it counts as archery.
