First Aoudad
Here a couple of pics from my first Aoudad hunt. My Dad and I won a free hunt at Cibolo Creek Ranch (www.cibolocreekranch.com) in the Chinati Mtns of West Texas. Once in a lifetime trip! The first is my Aoudad and the second is the hunting rig we used while hunting Blue Quail.

This thread hasn't seen any action in a few weeks, so I thought I'd post a few of my pics from 2005's hunt.
![]() This is me. My son took the picture just as the sun was coming over that ridge behind me. I'm smoking a cigarette in the picture, but most of that fog coming out of my mouth is due to the fact that it was about 6 degrees that morning. Since this is a gun forum, I'll mention that the rifle is a Remington 7400 Weathermaster in .30-06. It had a black synthetic stock when I bought it, but I didn't care for the feel of the synthetic much, so I traded with some guy on eBay for the wood furniture. It looks kind of odd, but appearances have neven been that big of a deal to me when it comes to firearms. Personally, dressing up a gun is kind of like wrapping a ribbon around a hammer. If it won't hammer nails better, what's the point? The thing on my left hip right behind my arm is a Garmin RINO 130 integrated radio and GPS unit. If you spend any time in the wilderness you really should look into these things. It's pretty much the best deal since they started slicing bread. ![]() This is me and my son. His first 'real' hunting trip. He hasn't stopped talking about it since. He also hasn't stopped asking me if he'll get to carry a gun next year. I honestly haven't decided yet, but I guess it depends on whether or not he keeps impressing me with his responsibility and seriousness at the range. I've got an old Winchester Model 37 16-gauge single I'll probably put some double-ought buckshot in and let him carry if he shows me he can handle it. Oh, and every time I've ever posted this picture someone has asked me about the hat, so I'll go ahead and say it's a T3 from a Canadian company called Tilley Endurables. They claim it's "The World's Finest Hat", and so far I'm inclined to believe them.

'05 handgun Mule deer
Here is my 2005 Wyoming mule deer. Mine is on the right. You can see my T/C Encore .308 hanging under my arm (my XD is also present but not seen on my right side). These two deer were in a group of 6 that I spotted on private land at noon. By evening they had fed their way onto public land and bedded down. Stalk was about 2 hours and another 45 minutes waiting for a good shot at the bedded deer. My buddy's deer finally gave him a shot and he took it. The rest of the deer jumped up, I kneeled up over a rock and shot mine--120 yards.
I haven't figured out how to post more than a thumbnail--first attempt at posting a pic. |
