gosh, itchy.

maybe you should have waited for the deer to stop. hitting it below the ribcage is just a no, no.

I would like to comment on one of you comments. If you use a soft point bullet you will get adequate penetration. Even if it is a 55 grain bullet. Now this does not include a V-Max type bullet. Those are not the same as soft points, and I would agree 100% with you, that at 100 yards a V-Max 55 grain bullet would most likely just destroy the shoulder without enough penetration.

Well, that deer wasnt going to stop. Dead is dead in my book, Im a bow hunter and I wait for the perfect shots while bow hunting. When Im gun hunting, I will take any shot I feel Im capable of. I have venison in the freezer and thats what matters.

I have a varmint rifle chambered in .225 winchester and their factory 55 grain soft points explode with verocity. Not every soft point bullet is ok to use on big game.

KaPlow,
Nice example of the effectiveness of the .223.
You nailed the key aspect of hunting "good judgement".

Which IMO equates to using the right tool for the job. If the job is a 1000 yard shot with a quick kill on a moving target, I'm calling in air support.

Yeah, we know, we tried to make it as BIG as possible, anyways, that trout was measured to be @ 22.5 inches. Pretty impressive. We got about 7 of them at that size.

Congrats on the bear mif_slim!!

ColoXD_Fan,

Will post up some hunting pix as soon as I upload them to my photobucket account. This is my favorite subject as well, thanks for bringing it up.

BTW,

Was the cat shot over dogs, or did you call it in?
