Good list...very comprehensive.

When I was a kid, my father taught me the first simple rule of firearm handling: "All guns are always loaded." That is the mindset you must have. All other firearm safety rules follow from this.

Great list and important for everyone. I pride myself in being very "safe" since i have three little ones, but when i was dry firing for practice and inadvertantly left a round in the mag... Let's just say the new hole in my ceiling and the unbelief that it happened has renewed my carefullness nad thoroughness. You can never be to safe. Thanks for the reminder.

I also have just joined. I think it is great to see that safety is discussed with all the other topics.

Superb list, however I don't think I would do any of the following things myself:

"6. Consider engraving your firearms with your social security number, driver's license number, or concealed firearms license number to deter theft and facilitate return of stolen firearms which may happen to be recovered."

With all the identity theft and such going on, the last thing I need is my gun getting stolen on top of my social security number that I had engraved on its slide or what have you.

Everything else sounds great.

I just saw this thread and I too, have to commend you OS for providing it.

As far as #6 (Never) goes tho, I had to do a couple of those while in patrol. Climb a fence and run down/up a steep hill after a suspect. Now, my gun was holstered in a very good retention holster. No worry about me doing that anymore; my running days are over.
