Thank you Propellerhead for the awesome step by step with pics.
I completed the PR best trigger kit with new trigger and sear springs in only 30 minutes on my XD40... and I took my time and made sure the overtravel stop was sanded just right... the first time. Thank you Daniel for the great kit at a reasonable cost. Now it's time for me to order the same kit for my XD9... |

After comparing the trigger feel, something tells me I won't be taking my XD9 to the range until it gets the same treatment as my XD40... Too bad I picked the most expensive (to shoot) to modify first.... I should have installed the kit on the XD9 first since the ammo is cheaper... |

Okay, I got my match trigger kit from PRP and am taking this all really slow and easy. Read this thread through once completely and I have an XDM. I went ahead and checked the pin movement at the safety lever and it will move easily enough. I also unclipped the spring that controls the grip safety-safety lever interaction and it rests nicely on the partial bar that the springs act against (Danial says this isn't really needed after replacement of the safety lever). After sliding the pin back into the sear I wiggled the safety lever to see how far it would go. I can get it up and forward a bit but definitely not out. A couple here have said that they needed to take the pin all the way out and remove the sear as well. Any pictures that convey just how much difficulty there will be in putting that back in and properly interacting with other parts out there? If I have to take it all out I'll replace the spring here as well (hadn't planned on doing that at first). Not in any rush but do want to continue to work at this as I gain a better understanding of how it's put together.
Thanks |

Daniel and all,
The safety level went in fine. There is always that bit of angst with spring loaded things. And nothing so far has made it clear how the sear itself interacts with other features (it really doesn't when putting it all back together). Finally with ALL the safeties again the interaction is something you don't want to screw up. The little nib on the side of the safety lever is the thing that made it a requirement to remove the sear as well. Then only hassle was fitting the sear back in with the safety lever properly engaged. Working punch on one side and pin on other helped hold things together while springs were navigated back into proper place. Sliding the spring retainer pin out a bit helped facilitate that. Strange that it goes back in until almost touching the safety lever (springs are made so tang is on other side of this pin). Anyway the pretravel has been greatly reduced. The trigger is much farther forward and I will attack the OT stop shortly. I really didn't see anything to add picture-wise between what's already been posted here and on the XDm disassembly page so no pics. Might put one out here when I do the stop. Once again great value in this forum. Thanks to all. Oh, and Step 1A complete. |
